Amantea Looking Ahead After Frustrating Weekend Dampened by Mother Nature and Misfortune

Inside Line Promotions – SWEDESBORO, N.J. (Aug. 31, 2020) – Joey Amantea dealt with wet weather and misfortune during a frustrating weekend.
Amantea originally planned to climb behind the wheel of the Burke Family No. 54 for two nights of winged 360ci sprint car competition, but constant showers cancelled events at Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, Pa., on Friday and at BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, Pa., on Saturday.
Amantea’s lone race of the weekend came in a micro sprint on Sunday at Spirit Auto Center Speedway, where he placed 22nd after being caught up in a late incident.
“It was a frustrating weekend as we didn’t get to do nearly as much racing as we planned due to rain,” he said. “I guess Mother Nature had other plans for us and Sunday we just were never any good at all.”
Amantea began Sunday night by advancing five positions in a heat race to finish fourth, which locked him into the A Main in the 19th starting spot. On a track that was hard to pass on, he advanced as high as 13th before hitting a rut on the white flag lap. That sent him flying into the infield and he was credited with the 22nd finishing spot.
“Pretty much anything that could go wrong did go wrong all night and we were just not very good at all,” he said. “I thought we were going to salvage a top 15, but luck wasn’t on our side and we ended up wrecked with a car needing repairs.”
Next up for Amantea will be three nights of micro sprint competition. On Friday he’ll head back to Spirit Auto Center Speedway looking for redemption in the wingless micro sprint before venturing to Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway in Newmanstown, Pa., on Saturday and Sunday for the Bud’s Spring Service Labor Day Shootout. On Saturday Amantea will run a winged micro sprint and on Sunday he will be in a wingless micro sprint.
“You’ve got to have a short memory in this sport because it’s always going to be filled with ups and downs,” he said. “Up to this point we’ve been fortunate to have more success then struggles. I’m looking forward to three nights of racing and seeing if we can’t put last week in the rearview mirror with some good results.”
