Inside Line Promotions – ORANGEVILLE, Pa. (June 1, 2020) – Joey Amantea earned his first two podium finishes of the season last Saturday at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks, where he finished second in winged micro sprint competition to go along with a third-place result in wingless action.

The podium outings continued a recent string of six straight top-10 finishes during the last three weeks at the oval.

“Overall, it was a very good weekend for us and I’m excited for the rest of the season,” Amantea said. “We’re so close to getting that first win of the season and this tells me it’s coming really soon.”

Amantea began the night in wingless competition and started fifth in a heat race. He was battling for the fourth position when he made contact with another car with four laps to go and spun out. Amantea restarted in the eighth position and charged forward to finish third, locking himself into the main event.

Amantea lined up in the 11th starting position during the feature and he quickly started moving forward. He advanced to the second position and was battling for the lead before his car got tight. As a result, Amantea struggled to make any moves and he got passed on the final lap to finish third by mere inches.

“The night started off really crazy, but I knew how good of a car we had and I wasn’t going to let myself run the B Main,” he said. “The car was a rocket and we proved it again in the feature by how fast we moved forward. We got to the leader and the car just got really tight and we held on for all we could at the end.”

Amantea started on the pole of a heat race in winged action and he took the checkered flag first. He earned the second starting spot in the feature as a result and he passed for the lead early before a caution negated the move. Amantea then ran the bottom of the track and was sizing up the leader for a last-lap pass when the caution came out once again. He attempted to make the pass on the restart, but settled for second.

“We’ve been running the top of the track recently, but it was really tough to get up there and the car was rolling the bottom so good,” he said. “Everything was playing into my hands there late and I was setting him up for a last-lap pass and unfortunately the caution came out. I wish we were talking about a win, but a second is pretty good, too.”

Amantea will once again return to Greenwood Valley Action Tracks on Saturday to compete in both winged and wingless competition. But first he will head to Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., on Friday to run his wingless micro sprint during the track’s season opener.

“My main goal was to be competitive wherever we went and I feel like we’ve accomplished that so far in 2020,” he said. “Now I want to win. We have worked so hard over the last year and we are due. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I feel like the time is here and if I do my job we can be up there contending for a win at both tracks this weekend.”
