Driver Information

Steve Dickson started racing in 1985 at the Rockford Speedway after initially competing in an annual grudge race featuring Loves Park Police Officers against Loves Park Businessmen.
After a fairly successful season in the Road Runners, Steve and his father purchased an American Short Tracker (four cylinder) from the Season Champion. The Rookie year didn't go so well and for 1986 Steve built a 1986 Dodge front wheel drive car. Steve "retired" at the end of 1989 and went to work for the Speedway as a Tech Official.

Fast forward to 2005 when the racing bug bit hard and Steve purchased front wheel drive Toyota to compete in the Bahama Bracket event at Rockford. While not scoring a win, Steve raced into the feature, survived a flat and finished. He sold the car and contemplated his next move.

In 2006 Madison International Speedway announced a 1/4 mile track was built and would feature the "Bandits", a 4 cylinder front wheel drive car on Friday nights. Steve purchased a Neon and went on to capture 1 feature and finish 8th in points.
In 2007 Steve purchased another Neon and with an opening day win, went on to capture the Season Championship. He also won the "futures" race at Slinger Speedway, having been there one other time (and he won that race as well.) He sold all the Neons and purchased a Sportsman for 2008.
After finishing third in points and capturing Rookie of the Year in Sportsmen, Steve purchased a newer car but had limited success until putting another driver behind the wheel. He sold the sportsman and in 2011 returned to front wheel drive racing with a Ford Focus.

In 2013 Steve was poised to win a Season Championship at Slinger when a work injury sidelined him with 3 weeks to go.. He returned for the final race and won but was far short of points.
He went on to win the Wisconsin State Championship at Jefferson Speedway, having never raced there in a front wheel drive.

In 2014 Steve concentrated on Rockford Speedway where he won 6 features and lost the point championship by 2 points.. He was the Trophy Dash series Champion with many wins and fast times.

Since then Steve has continued to campaign the Focus all over the Midwest at tracks like Dells Speedway, Rockford Speedway, Jefferson, Madison, Slinger, Lucas Oil Speedway, Grundy County Speedway among others.
Look for the Chief Motorsports team at a track near you in 2018!
