Ironman Sweep
EMI swept both classes of the Ironman in Pevely, MO. Rico Abreu proved to be the strongest man Saturday night in the Ironman 55 at I-55 Raceway as he powered forward and battled to the lead scoring his first World of Outlaws Series victory of the season. To chants of, "Rico, Rico, Rico," from a packed grandstands, Abreu hoisted the coveted dumbbell trophy and claimed the $20,000 prize. The win is his fourth career series win.
Zach Daum rebounded to take the Ironman 55 finale with the POWRi National Midget Series at I-55 Raceway. Daum’s new EAGLE flew to his 16th career POWRi win and third of 2016.
The Racesaver IMCA Sprint Car Feature at Eagle Raceway was won by the 7KX EAGLE of Toby Chapman. Chapman bobbled once and lost the lead for a moment only to regain it on a restart. Chapman said “The track was slick by the time our feature got run. I got lucky and got to the front first. It was great to get my first win this year, but the one I really want is the day before Labor Day at the Nationals.”
Badlands wasn’t so bad to EMI as the podium was topped by three EAGLEs. Seth Bergman took his turn at winning a big check during Double Down Weekend at Badlands Motor Speedway. The Snohomish, Washington, driver led all 20 laps of the MSTS 360 Sprint Car feature for his second BMS win this season. Justin Henderson followed Bergman in second for the entire feature. Henderson didn’t have much of a chance to challenge the leader as Bergman masterfully worked back markers. Thomas Kennedy enjoyed success in the MSTS feature by finishing third. Bergman’s win was worth $5,000.
Kelsey Carpenter earned a win in the Sportsman Sprint Cars at Skagit Speedway. Stalking the leader until lap 20, hard-charging Kelsey finally built the momentum to make the pass. He also won his heat making it a perfect night with his EAGLE.
Lucas Wolfe tuned up Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway in the John and Pee Wee Zemaitis-owned Zemco No. 1 in preparation for next week’s Knoxville Nationals. He made it pay off, too, as he dominated the feature for his 15th career Grove win and second of the season earning $3,600. “We were getting tight on time with Knoxville coming up next week and we never had the opportunity to run the car that we plan on running there,” said Wolfe. “We have a car and an engine that we think will be our best option to run there and we wanted to get some laps with it and make sure it was okay.” The SCHNEE was more than okay as it was fast right out of the box.
BCRA Midget Lites were in action at Placerville Speedway. Kyle Offill was never seriously challenged and led every lap on his way to victory, his third of the year with his HENCHCRAFT.
Chance Crum is on the gas while sitting in Brock Lemley’s HENCHCRAFT. The young talent clinched his second victory at Deming Speedway.
Micros continue to show top results. Shane Sundquist returned to his roots to win at KAM Raceway with his EAGLE Micro. Shane has been pulling double duty as a new sprint car driver and his eighth trip to the raceway proved to be a winner.
Chase Brewer proved that multiple drivers can adapt to the same Stallard SST. Danny Cuddeford has been on a terror fielding his SST with different drivers and getting the same result. Wins! This time at Body Speedway and Chase Brewer.
Matt Smith captured his first non-wing win in nine tries. This came at Spirit Auto Center Speedway in Milford, DE. Matt has continued to build a relationship with the EMi tech department and we couldn’t be more pleased to report the results.
The Knoxville 360 Nationals returned some great results for EMi. The top two qualifiers for the A-Main were a pair of EMi builds. Both Clint Garner in his SCHNEE and Justin Henderson with an EAGLE. Both drivers lead the leader board during their qualifying nights and went on to back it up with solid runs in preliminary features. Come main night it was a series of EMi victories in the lesser mains with Colby Copeland leading things off with a E-Main victory in the Gary Williams owned EAGLE. Transferring to the D then chasing eventual winner Billy Butler in his first trip to the famed Raceway with his SCHNEE. The B-main was stacked with many professions vying for four transfers to the big show. Jack Dover won it pulling 2 other EAGLE’s across the line with him. Seth Bergman and John Carney Jr. When the dust settled the A-Main left us with some proud moments. Clint Garner lead the charge with third place finish. Jack Dover climbed to 7th from a 19th starting position. Other A-Main notables were Seth Bergman, Ryan Giles, Ryan Roberts, and Tasker Phillips.
