Ray Parent
Rehabing to Victory
Ray Parent took his Amtrol Ford Fusion to is home track this past weekend. The goal, just see if he could physically drive the car; In what was just a test session for him and not the car turned into a trip to victory lane for the Tiverton, RI driver.
Injuring his shoulder during a fishing tournament with his family two-weeks earlier Parent had to withdraw from arguable the biggest series event on the American Canadian Tour schedule. Unable to buckle into the car in the Teams shop, he bowed out of the $25,000 to-win International 300 at Airborne Speedway. The upstate New York oval was the site of Parent’s victory in May.
“I just wasn’t physically able to strap into the car,” stated Parent. “ The pressure on my shoulder from just my HANS device was almost to much. I really hated too miss Airborne, especially after our win early this year…”
Allowing his shoulder to heal and with family obligations this coming weekend the 17RI Team headed to Seekonk Speedway to see if he would be able to compete. Parent started from the 9th position and battled side-by-side for the last 5-laps to claim the victory. When asked in victory lane how his shoulder felt, he stated “I had forgotten all about”.
We really didn’t go there to race,” stated Parent. The whole Team, my family did a great job and has been really supportive. We just stayed out of trouble and took our time. Next thing i knew we were battling for the lead. I can’t thank everyone enough…”
Parent who is rehabbing from home believes that he will be good to go when the ACT Series heads to Maine in a week. Beech Ridge Motor Speedway marks round 7 of the 9 race series and reignites the points battle among the top-5. Parent sites fourth in points just 11-markers outside of second.
“I’m feeling much better.” stated Parent. The doctor says everything is looking good. I’m really looking forward to Beech Ridge [Speedway]. We’ve had good cars there in the past.”
