Taylor Spectacular during 360ci Sprint Car Debut

Inside Line Promotions – ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (June 14, 2016) – Racing in front of family and friends can add pressure, especially for a 17-year-old. Zac Taylor not only excelled in his first 360ci sprint car race, he won!

Taylor debuted with a victory at his home track of Sweetwater Speedway on Friday before electrical problems on Saturday prevented him from making it a weekend sweep.

“I raced at the Chili Bowl and didn’t have the butterflies I had this weekend,” he said. “To know your family and friends are all there … it puts a whole new level of pressure on you.”

There was no doubt Taylor, a 305ci sprint car driver the past few years, could “wheel” the more powerful 360 sprint car during his debut. He finished second during a heat race and quickly drove into the lead early during the main event en route to his third triumph this season.

On the second night Taylor won a heat race and started the main event on the outside of the third row. However, he was sent to the rear of the field after making contact with an infield barrier. Taylor rebounded by charging back to third place just past the halfway mark before an ignition problem relegated him to a sixth-place finish.

“The whole weekend really didn’t sink in for a while,” he said. “It was a blur until we sat down and gave it some thought. Just to have all our family and friends in the pits afterwards … it was unbelievable. Unfortunately, the second night we had some ignition problems, but the car was very fast all weekend.

“Also, my dad’s boss runs modifieds there and he and his son were a tremendous help and I can’t thank them enough.”

The fantastic weekend caught the United States Auto Club’s (USAC) attention as well.

“They called me and invited me to race with them in August,” he said. “I don’t know if we will be able to do that, but to know they have my phone number and they called me … wow.”

Taylor plans on competing in a doubleheader with the Todd Henry owned midget this weekend with the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association (RMMRA) at Phillips County Raceway in Holyoke, Colo., on Friday and I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan, Colo., on Saturday.

Taylor last raced the midget May 21 at I-76 Speedway and battled his way from 17th to a ninth-place finish. He is currently ninth in the RMMRA points standings.

“I’m very excited to get back in the midget,” he said. “Todd is a great guy and we had a lot of fun earlier this year and I know we can do well.”
