Taylor Competes in Two Races on Same Day, Records Pair of Top 10s
Inside Line Promotions – BYERS, Colo. (Oct. 11, 2016) – When the racing season begins winding down racers do all they can to get more seat time. That’s exactly what Zac Taylor did last Saturday when he competed at two different Colorado tracks on the same day.
Taylor kicked off the evening in his 305ci sprint car at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan, Colo., where he advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race before maneuvering from third to a runner-up finish in the main event.
“I looked at the track and thought there was no way anyone else was going to the top so that’s where I began the race,” he said. “I saw a couple of guys show me their noses so I went to the bottom. The leader was racing up top and we had a red about the middle of the feature. His crew guys must have told him I was coming on the bottom because that’s where he went. We just didn’t have enough straightaway speed. We couldn’t get enough forward bite.”
Taylor said after the feature his dad said something about driving to Byers to race with the United Rebel Sprint Series at Colorado Motorsports Park.
“He kind of joked about it, but I was like, ‘Let’s go,’” he said. “So we loaded up and drove the hour and 17 minutes to Byers. We unloaded, changed the gears, stagger and shocks and tagged the back of the feature.
“The track was dry slick so I went to the bottom right away. I couldn’t get around anyone so I went to the top and got by a few cars. With a little bit better setup I think we had a top-five car, but I’m happy with how the day went.”
Taylor, who finished seventh, said his sprint car racing is done for the season, but there could be a couple of midget races yet in 2016.
“We’re looking at doing the Turkey Night Grand Prix and Du Quoin (Illinois) with Cory (Kruseman) if we get enough sponsor help,” he said. “We WILL race in the Chili Bowl Nationals in January.”
