Top Ten Finish At The Ironman 55; Ready For The Knoxville Nationals
Pevely, MO (August 2, 2014) - Chad Kemenah returned to the I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Missouri to run one of the most grueling races on the World of Outlaws circuit, the Ironman 55.
Chad Kemenah returned to the track where he picked up his first career World of Outlaws win back in 2005, and confidence is always something you want in your corner before any race starts.
Kemenah started his evening by timing in 16th overall in qualifying. The qualifying effort landed him a sixth place starting position in the first heat race of the night. During the heat race Kemenah did everything he could to hold onto the sixth position but Danny Dietrich would pass the white No.63 car and hold on for the final transfer spot to the feature event.
Starting on the front row of the 12-Lap; Last Chance Showdown Kemenah had to be on point from start to finish. Starting alongside World of Outlaw rookie Logan Schuchart Kemenah quickly jumped out to the lead after the first lap, but Schuchart had other plans. Schuchart was able to pass Kemenah a lap later and open up a lead and but Kemenah didn’t panic at all as he was able to finish in the second position and transfer to the feature event.
Starting 16th in the Ironman 55 feature time was on Kemenah side to make his way towards the front. The race got underway and Kemenah went to work as he was able to move up one position after the first lap. From there Kemenah let the track come to him and the car responded nicely as he slowly started to move forward.
As the feature continued Kemenah was running in the 13th position just shy of the half-way point of the race. Working the bottom the track started to pay off as he moved into the 12th position a few laps later. The continued to get better and better on the bottom of the track and with ten laps to go Kemenah cracked the top ten. During the final stages of the race Kemenah was unable to catch David Gravel on the final lap of the race and he would finish in the tenth position.
“We had a good car tonight and I wish we could have timed in better so we did not have to run the B-Main but we learned a few things and it helped us for the feature,” said Kemenah. “It’s been a tough season we have run great here and there but not as consistent as we know we can run, and with the Knoxville Nationals coming up it’s always good to finish strong before making the trip to Knoxville, Iowa. I have thank everyone that helps this team out, AJ Havens has worked his tail off on this car and Bob Hampshire builds us a great motor and my wife Tracy is always there to support me no matter what.”
Next on the schedule is the 54th Annual FVP Knoxville Nationals Presented by Caseys General Stores. Last year Chad Kemenah started the Knoxville Nationals A-Main in the 18th position and when the 50-Lap feature was completed he crossed the finish line in fifth place.
“Our Knoxville Nationals didn’t start the way we wanted it to and we had to race our way in on Friday night, but getting a top five finish at the Knoxville Nationals from the 18th starting position is ok with me,” said Kemenah. “The Knoxville Nationals is tough you have to be consistent from start to finish or your week could be in jeopardy after one night. All we can do is go in there and get a good qualifying lap and race hard in our heat race and feature and hope we get enough point to lock us in the Saturday night feature.”
