Wet track and a lot of learning
The 2nd race of the 2015 NMMRA season brought on a wet track and a whole lot of learning. I started 6th in the 2nd of 3 heats, and didn't move a position. The track was wetter than I have ever driven on due to earlier rain storms in the day. I started really well, but due large amounts of mud hitting me and blocking my view, I unable to grab my tear off. I ended up driving blind for two laps until I was able to clear my visor and try to make up time. Official finish was 6th.
The main event had me starting in the 19th position out of a 19 car field. The first lap had a couple of cars getting tangled up right in front of me and I had plenty of time to get out of the way. Upon the restart I had a really good jump on the high side of the track and was able to pass some cars. As I was coming into turn 1 in the last few laps of the race the #24 of Robert Marfia was having some car issues and was slowing down, I didn't have enough time to react and bumped him as he was exiting the track. The yellow came out and when we restarted I was able to gain several positions and was gaining ground of the # 7 of Matthew Cardenas. Official finish for the night was 7th. Congratulations to the #74 of Josh Hodges on the win.
I would like to thank my sponsors Hal Burns Truck RV and Equipment Service, Carquest, and Autolite. My car owner David Burns and crew Steve Nicks, Clyde Hill, and Russ Hein, and a special shout out to Bobby Jackson and Nikoleta Hornackova for helping me get all the mud off the car between races.
