Hodges Motorsports Update - Thunderbird Raceway

We're heading back home now after a bit of a tough night at the Thunderbird Raceway in Muskogee, OK. It was the ASCS Sooner's finale, and 29 cars showed up for the event. I drew pill 48 to start the night, which set me to start 10th in the first heat race. The 1/2 track was wide-open and fast for the heats, and it was going to be tough to pass. In the first corner, a few cars got together, one getting upside down, and that moved me to 7th on the next start. Early I was able to get by a car for 6th, but in doing so lost some ground on the cars in front of me. I caught up and got underneath for 5th several times in the last couple of laps, but was not able to get by before the checkered flew. It wasn't a great race for us, but it was enough to put us in the feature, where we would start 14th. The track had now slicked up with a narrow bottom groove and a small cushion on the fence. In the opening laps, I got by a few cars and moved up to around the 10th or 11th spot before a red came out on lap 8. Under the red, we were able to make some changes, and we got back under way. On the restart, I got by one or two cars in a couple laps, and felt like we got the car a lot better, but getting into turn one on the next lap, I got pointed down and over corrected the car and got into the inside birm which folded up the front axle. Our night was over after that which set us back to an 18th place finish. I felt like there were some positives to take away, and we made some good adjustments under the red, so I am not completely disappointed although we would have liked to close out the night. Our next stop looks to be Devil's Bowl Speedway for the ASCS National race in a couple of weeks.
