Hodges Motorsports Update - USA Raceway Win

It was good night here in Tucson, AZ atop the 3/8 mile USA Raceway with the ASCS Southwest series, and we were able to get our 1st wing win of 2011 and our 4th overall win on the year. The night didn't start out looking so good though, watching a hard downpour of rain for close to 20 minutes. The bad weather subsided and allowed us to race on time, which started with me pulling pill 10 to start outside the front row of the 1st heat. After 3 tries on the initial start, we were able to get going and I was able to take the Napa Auto Parts, Kronik Energy Drink No. 74x to the front. We lead all 8 laps and took home the heat race win, and the car felt really good. That was also enough to get us into the redraw, where we drew 6 to start outside the 3rd row in the main event. The track had a good top and bottom groove with a slick black streak through the middle which lent itself to some good hard racing. On the initial start, I was able to jump to 5th, then 4th past Rick Zhiel in the opening laps. About 5 or 6 laps in, we caught traffic and I started finding what the car liked and within a couple laps we got by 3 cars to take the lead. Soon after, a red flag came out which meant a restart. After somebody hit the cone on the first try, we did it again and I held on to the lead. After a few more laps, I was able to inch away and grab ahold of a decent lead, catching lap traffic. When I got to the bumpers of lap cars, I was able to move the Mesilla Valley Transportation, ButlerBuilt Seating car around and get by quickly. Everything worked out and we were able to get into victory lane powered by Wesmar and with great handling on the new Momentum Racing Suspensions Shocks. A big thank you to all the fans who stuck out the rain and stayed for the race, and another thank you to Brad Benic who helped us get our season turned around of late. Next up looks to be Devil's Bowl Speedway in a few weeks with the ASCS National Tour in a few weeks, unless our plans change.
