Hodges Motorsports Update - USA Raceway

We are all wrapped up at the USA Raceway in Tucson, AZ after a night of winged racing with the ASCS Southwest Region. I started the night pulling pill #62 which set me starting 7th in the 2nd heat race. The track was still fast and one groove for the heat, and I got by most of the cars on the start, but was only able to work myself to 4th on the narrow racetrack. With passing points gathered from the heat, I made the top-8 re-draw where I drew the pole starting position. The track was still heavy and fast for the start of the main, but slicked off from the middle up. I jumped out to the early lead and was pretty good through the first stint of the race until a lap 11 caution. The track was still pretty moist on the bottom groove and we planned for a slicker track so the car was getting a little tight. After the restart, I got out to another good lead and was working alright until I got to lap cars around lap 20. I started really getting tight, and 2nd and 3rd were coming. One corner I pushed up trying to get past a car and 2nd place went by me. Down in the next corner after losing my momentum, 3rd place went by me, and after that I was never able to get back to where I was before and the checkered flew with us finishing 3rd. It was a bit of a disappointment leading all those laps and not getting the finish we would like, but the car is in one piece and we are able to move on to next week. A huge thanks to Derrik Ortega for coming along and helping us out this weekend. Next week's plans have us heading to Peoria, AZ and Canyon Speedway Park, taking the top off again and doin' some non-wing with the ASCS Canyon Region.
