Hodges Motorsports Update - USA Raceway

Day 2 of the "Salute to Indy" is wrapped up at the USA Raceway in Tucson, AZ. After a strong 2nd place finish last night, we were hoping to improve and possibly get the win tonight. I started off pulling pill 44 which set me starting 9th in the 2nd heat. The track was still greasy even after a night of racing and sustained winds of 20-30 mph winds through the day, catching us off guard. I did not get a great start, and had to work one by one, but was only able to work myself to 5th in the heat. The put us 2 spots shy of the top 8 re-draw so we started 10th in the feature. With the track wide and heavy now, we made changes expecting the track to go slick a little bit into the A-main. On the initial start, I held my own in 10th, and after just a few laps the track was dry slick with a narrow bottom and not much of a cushion up top. Through the first half of the race, I worked myself up to 6th, and ran there until a lap 19 caution. On the restart, I tried the bottom to gain some ground, but was not able to do anything, so I went back to the top. I started inching towards 5th, but it was too late when the checkers flew so I ended up settling for 6th place. All in all it was a good weekend for us, and we were able to roll the car back in the trailer undamaged. Our plans for the next few weeks are up in the air, so we will make a decision later in the week.
