Hodges Motorsports Update - Canyon Speedway Park

The Canyon Clash is all rapped up here in Peoria, AZ, as the ASCS Canyon came and put on one of the best nights of racing on the year. Our days started pulling pill 4 to start on the pole of the 3rd heat. The track was heavy with a cushion, and after getting a good start, I got out to the early lead and was able to get the win in the heat. That was just enough to get us in the re-draw, which I drew 4 again, to start 4th in the feature. After looking pretty good and fast all night, it got really slick, just before the main with a foot tall ledge/ cushion off turn 4. There was a lot of movement on the start, and I was all the up to 3rd and back to 5th and 6th throught the first 15 laps of the race. Everybody was running the top, and there were more slide jobs than I have ever seen. Through the middle of the race, there were a couple cautions, and I was running 4th. After those, we got going again, and I really started getting in rythm after losing some ground. I was all over the bumpers of 2nd and 3rd (possibly the fastest car at the end), but knew I had to stay out of trouble until the end with the track being so treacherous. On the final lap, I closed even more through one and two, but in three and four, I saw 2nd and 3rd shoot to the bottom going for the win and I took the top hoping to get to 2nd. I was able to slip by for 3rd and was closing quick to get by 2nd when I hit a big chunk of cushion, trying to break underneath to pass, which in turn pack the whole front of the car with clay to the point where the car stalled and another car piled in. We never got to cross the finish line, but ended up 15th due to cars dropping out. We had a really good run, but just couldn't seal the deal this weekend. It's especially tough knowing that we had one of the fastest, if not the fastest car towards the end of the race.
