Hodges Motorsports Update - USA Raceway

The elbows up, stand-on-it USA Raceway was all that and more tonight with the opening night of the ASCS Canyon region. I kicked off the night drawing pill 27 which set us starting 5th in the third heat. The track was tacky with a slight black streak up top and a good cushion. On the start, I was able to advance to 4th, and within a couple laps, I got my rhythm and went by on the outside to take third. Around lap 5 or 6, I slid by for second, where I would finish. The car was a rocket the first few laps but got looser and looser as the track lost moisture. This set us up in the re-draw for the top 8 starting positions in the main, and I ended up drawing the worse, 8. The track now was slick in the middle with a foot tall cushion against the fence on both ends with a decent bottom groove. On the start I got shuffled back to about 11th, and there was little real estate. As things got settled down, I was able to get better and start picking off some cars, until eventually I was able to get to 6th when a red flag came out. On the restart, I was able to get by for fifth but another caution came out, putting me back to 6th. This happened again, and finally on the last restart, I got by for fifth and coming to the checkerd, I tried to squeeze enough out to take 4th but ended up finding the fence. Luckily, I was able to keep it on all fours after riding it for a little ways, but I ended up falling back to place 9th. The car started really coming on at the end, and we were happy with the car until the last caution where I lost too much air in the right rear, making the car tight. Our next stop will be the Spring Nationals at Devil's Bowl Speedway in a couple of weeks when the ASCS National Series invades norther Texas.
