Helms Wrangles First Top 10 of Season at Attica Raceway Park

Inside Line Promotions – ORRVILLE, Ohio (April 21, 2015) – Caleb Helms captured his first top 10 of the season last Friday at Attica Raceway Park.
Helms opened the night at the third-mile oval in Attica, Ohio, by qualifying sixth quickest. He then placed fourth in a heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the eighth row for the main event.
“We were rolling pretty good at least the last half of the race,” he said. “I started out running the high side because everybody was running the bottom. I was keeping up, but everybody was pretty even. I moved to the bottom and started reeling in a bunch of cars toward the end.”
Helms maneuvered from 16th to a ninth-place result.
“It was a great night, especially because it was a slick track and sometimes those are the toughest to get dialed in on,” he said. “The cars we were passing and closing in on were good.”
His team ventured to Wayne County Speedway on Saturday for a UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions event.
Helms qualified fifth quickest in his group, which lined him up on the inside of the third row of a heat race. He then advanced to a third-place result, which was one spot out of making the feature redraw.
“We went the wrong way with the setup in the main event,” he said. “We were too loose. It was pretty rough around the outside and we thought we’d have to be loose to run it. I was reeling in cars at the end, but I got passed by too many before I started to pass cars.”
Helms ended with a 14th-place finish.
Sunday’s All Star race at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa., was cancelled because of weather.
Helms will tackle a pair of All Star events in Pennsylvania this weekend as he invades Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg on Friday and Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal on Saturday. Helms will also make his career debut at Path Valley Speedway Park in Spring Run, Pa., on Sunday.
“I love going to Williams Grove and Port Royal,” he said. “The fans are awesome and they are historic tracks. Plus, it’s some of the toughest local competition in the country.”
