Helms Rebounds from Heat Race Incident to Post Top 10 at Millstream

Inside Line Promotions – FINDLAY, Ohio (Oct. 15, 2015) – Caleb Helms capped his season with a top-10 finish last Sunday at Millstream Speedway.
“We got off to a good start,” he said. “I was leading the heat race pretty convincingly, but going into turn three on the last lap a car spun in front of me and we crashed. I was told we had a straightaway lead at the time.”
The wreck didn’t allow Helms to finish the heat race and his team scrambled to fix the damage, which included a broken steering arm, bent wheel, bent Jacobs Ladder and a damaged top wing, prior to the main event.
“We got it put back together for the feature,” he said. “We ended up losing an inch and a half of stagger from the heat to the feature and didn’t realize it. I could have been a little tighter.”
Helms smacked the wall in turns three and four a couple of times during the main event, but he continually progressed through the field en route to a ninth-place result.
“About the center off in the corners I needed more stagger,” he said. “I had to really hustle it. Turns one and two had a cushion that was pretty easy to run. The added stagger would have helped us in turns three and four.”
Helms had also planned on competing last Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, but the team found a mechanical problem that morning which prevented them from racing.
