Starks Garnered a Season-High Three Victories During Year in Northwest
Inside Line Promotions - PUYALLUP, Wash. (Oct. 29, 2013) - Trey Starks didn't travel as much this season as in past years, which he credits as an aid toward building a steady foundation for future road trips.
While the team didn't chase points at any track or region, it spent most of the year in the Northwest. Starks earned a career-best trio of victories at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., and he finished with 18 top fives and 26 top 10s in 45 races.
"The past couple of years we've gone on the road and competed against the World of Outlaws as well as in other big events," he said. "This year we decided not to travel as much and I really noticed a difference after spending so much time on the road against the best in the business. I felt like we were in contention almost every week this season."
Starks finished third in the inaugural Summer Thunder Series - a four-race event at Skagit Speedway - and he ended fifth in the ASCS Northwest Region despite missing a quarter of the races. Starks also ranked second in the region in top fives and he notched a fourth-place result in the ASCS Northwest Region Speedweek.
However, it was a trip to the East Coast - the only time the team left the West Coast - that Starks noted as he recapped the season. The team ventured to the famed Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for a pair of weekends in the fall and Starks advanced to the feature during both nights of the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series National Open.
"As great as it was to win some races back home, it was awesome to haul back to the East Coast and put together some good runs against the best competition at one of the most technical tracks," he said. "That gave me a lot of confidence and the experience was invaluable. Hopefully we can get back there more often."
While the plans for next season are still up in the air, Starks said he is proud of the season the team put together and he thinks the momentum created will springboard them to new heights in the future.
"I'm not sure whether we will travel more or possibly base the team in another region, but I'm anticipating that next season will be a great one," he said. "I'm not looking forward to waiting a few months during the offseason. I'm ready to start racing now."
