Starks Will Return to Williams Grove Speedway for National Open

Inside Line Promotions - ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 29, 2013) - Trey Starks was pleased with his first weekend of racing in the sprint car hotbed state of Pennsylvania.

After a couple of solid performances hampered by mechanical and racing issues, Starks is excited to announce that he will return to the region for this weekend's World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series National Open at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

"It's going to be fun," he said. "Williams Grove, that's a bad place. When you go wheel packing and you come off turn four you can barely see turn one. It's a crazy place. They talk about Knoxville and Eldora being a lot different than other places. I'd say Williams Grove is more set apart than any of the other ones. That's a whole different ball park."

Starks made his inaugural visit to the fast track last Friday, when he qualified 21st quickest and placed eighth in his heat race.

"I couldn't really hit the bottom at first," he said. "I figured it out in the closing laps. The bottom was the dominant line. We got laps and we learned."

Starks then lined up on the inside of the second row for the B Main, which transferred the top four to the feature.

"We had second going into turn three and we were almost outside the leader and right in between (turns) three and four the u-joint broke," he said. "That was the first time I've ever had a u-joint break."

The opening-lap mechanical failure halted Starks and forced him to the pits early.

"We were running good and I think we would have been able to transfer in," he said. "It was good to get laps in. Now were going into the National Open not quite so blind. It is a very different place and the laps were well needed and worthwhile. I wish we could have got a couple more, but now I know what to expect."

Starks wrapped up his weekend on Saturday at Lincoln Speedway. He qualified 17th quickest and placed sixth in his heat race to lock into the feature during his first race at the 3/8-mile oval.

"Lincoln was a track that was more similar to tracks back home because it was a little smaller," he said. "We were a little bit off in the setup, but it was another really fast track."

After starting 17th in the main event, Starks was on the move before being caught up in a race-ending crash in the opening laps.

"We were up to around 12th by the third lap and we got racing with Danny Dietrich," he said. "We were running the top and he moved up to the top in front of me. I went to go underneath him and a car in front of us just spun out in the middle. We were moving. It was going to be a good race."

The collision bent the radius rod and Starks was unable to make it out of the work area before the race resumed. He was credited with a 20th -place result.
