Tuesdays with TMAC – Coming Close at the “Fall Haul”

Des Moines, IA (October 2, 2018) – TMAC wrapped up the races he will run in the state of Iowa last weekend, scoring two podium finishes in the Scott Bonar-owned Midland Performance #50 with the Sprint Invaders at 34 Raceway during the inaugural “Fall Haul.” Next on the schedule for McCarl will be a trip west to jump in the Offill family-owned #88 to take on a stout field at one of the premier 360 events in the country, the Trophy Cup.

Friday night’s action dealt with a threat of rain and subpar weather, but TMAC got off to a fast start in his heat race. “It was very cold and crappy weather on Friday,” said Terry. “We started last in our heat and were able to make a nice run through the field to finish second, which earned us the pole for the dash.”

After walking away with the win in the dash, McCarl had the chance to show off his vocal range after getting some assistance from a young fan. “After winning the dash, a young girl named Layla did a great job and drew me the pole for the A-main,” said TMAC. “I’d have to assume her parents are fans of Eric Clapton.”

Driving the Scott Bonar-owned, Midland Performance #50 for the weekend, Terry relished the opportunity to not have the task of making setup decisions. “I love racing for Scott,” said TMAC. “He does such a great job at setting up the car that I’m free to just enjoy the night and race; it’s a nice break for me, since I’m used to filling both roles as driver and owner.”

A slight miscalculation for the night’s feature event saw TMAC fall back early, ending the night as the final podium finisher in 3rd. “The track was perfect for the A,” said Terry. “It had slicked off a bit and Scott and I misjudged how much it would blow off. As soon as we pushed off I could tell we were going to be too loose.”

“With how strong both Jon [Agan] and Paul [Nienhiser] were on Friday, being off by the little bit that we were made it hard to compete with those two. They got around me early, but late in the race I was able to move the wing back and felt like I was gaining on Paul as the checkered flew.”

Saturday night’s show wound up being held on Sunday night, allowing the rain to back off and the temperatures to warm up a bit. Another rough pill draw saw TMAC rolling off 6th in his heat and advancing to third by the time the checkered fell, but the night provided a racing surface much to Terry’s liking. “We ran up to 3rd in the heat, which was enough to get us in the dash and the track was great,” said McCarl. “Us old guys like slick tracks and that’s how it was on Sunday.”

After using the dash for some testing, TMAC rolled off on the inside of the second row for Sunday’s main event. Terry would finish runner up to Washington’s Seth Bergman, though there was no room for second-guessing. “We could run everywhere in the feature and the car felt great,” said Terry. “If I could go back, I don’t think I’d make any changes to our setup; Seth was just in another zip code that night and deserved the win.”

Following the strong showing in the Midland Performance #50, McCarl had nothing but great things to say about the event and the track. “I can’t thank everyone that chipped into the lap money purse enough,” said TMAC. “All of the drivers and owners greatly appreciated it and 34 Raceway did a great job and put on a great show for both the teams and fans. I hope they run it again next year; one of my favorite tracks and a great event!”

The next time TMAC takes to the track will be on the left coast, as he will be piloting Country Builders Construction, Offill-owned #88 during the 25th Annual Trophy Cup at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California. TMAC Motorsports is also working to put sponsorship together for a trip to Charlotte to compete against the World of Outlaws at the World Finals!
