Britt Invades I-30 Speedway for STN 2022
Landon Britt invaded I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Ark.) on Thursday afternoon for the opening round of three-straight days of racing at the 1/4-mile oval.
Seventy-four American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) Midsouth Region racers were on hand for the rain-delayed Ralph Henson Memorial. Pill draw positioned Britt second on the starting grid for his heat race, and that's where he would finish.
Lining up third on the B-Main grid, he slid backwards to a sixth-place finish and with only the Top-2 finishers moving onto the feature, his night came to an early end.
The 35th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals kicked into high gear on Friday night as the preliminary night for the event came to life. A star-studded field of 84 entries jam-packed into the pit area.
The field was divided into a pair of $1,500-to-win programs, and after qualifying sixth fastest in his group, Landon finished fifth in his heat race, which left him one spot short of locking into the feature.
He wired the field in his 12-lap B-Main to earn the 18th-starting spot for the finale. Climbing two spots in the 20-lap prelim feature, he crossed the finish line in 16th.
The event drew to a close on Saturday night with a $15,041 top prize on the line. Landon drew the pole position for his heat. Unfortunately bad luck bit him as his fellow front row starter jumped the start, but officials didn't call it back. Britt didn't fire because he was confident that the start would be called back.
As a result he fell back to a fourth-place finish, which pinned him deep in the starting grid for a B-Main. Britt failed to reach a transfer spot in the B-Main as his weekend drew to a disappointing early end.
