2018 ShootOut at the BullRing Update
Perry, NY; Super short track racing is fan friendly excitement. From anywhere in the grandstands, you are able to catch the action and cheer for the competition. There are even opportunities to get autographs, stickers, and engage in great racing conversation with local racing heroes. Â The ShootOut at the BullRing has been a fan favorite for many years, and continues to grow as a great regional finale and camping weekend.
This season, the headline event will be the 2nd Annual Jim Pierce Memorial SST Modified 100! A huge success last year with teams representing race tracks from the across the North East. The purse has been improved yet again to reflect the growing SST Modified interest and the number 26. This year’s event will pay $2,600 to win and $226 to take the green (over $15,000 in total purse), plus a bonus money program generated by Lori Overdorf.
Considering the strong weekly SST Modified field at WCIS, this event could be the biggest race in years for the division. Plans for a paid B-Main are in place if the field exceeds the 40 count anticipated. During the “hay-day of the SST Modified Tour, car counts grew into the 60s for some of the final year end event, and returning to this is a goal for many involved in the promotion of this event, over the next several years.
We encourage all levels of SST Modified competition to participate in this event. The B-Main can provide a second opportunity to highlight team sponsors, and grab a spot in the main event. Several qualifying events are scheduled throughout the region to support the teams looking for a spot in the big race. Â The ShootOut rules are specifically WCIS SST Modified Rules found online. The tire is the American Racer EC-31 purchased only at the event to mitigate tire tampering. The racing fuel is limited to Sunoco 110, also available the weekend of competition.
The Removal of the American Modified 100 from the ShootOut Schedule is disappointing, and we apologize to the fans for the inconvenience. We plan on revisiting the possibilities of continuing the Big Mod division in the future, with a new, dedicated event sponsor.
The ShootOut schedule is being adjusted to accommodate weekend camping and travel. Friday, October 12th begins the 2 day event with open practice, followed by a racing program headlined by our WCIS Super Stocks competing in a 50 lap event, accompanied by the 6 Cylinders, and the 4 Cylinders who will compete in a Dash-4-Cash. There will also be the addition of an SST Modified Pit Stop Challenge, which will include a two (2) tire pit stop by a four (4) person crew, open to any SST Modifed teams who would like to participate during the intermission. The winning team will be awarded a series of prizes, including a $100 cash prize going to the winning crew (and also bragging rights).
Saturday, October 13th highlights the 2nd Annual Jim Pierce Memorial SST Modified 100, NY Super Stock Sandra Vogler Memorial 51, 4 Cylinders, Vintage Racecars, and the great possibility of B-Main events for the SST Modifieds and NY Super Stocks, all featuring some of the top teams in the region. On-track introductions and fan interaction will also be added for the excitement surrounding this year’s ShootOut weekend.
Camping is available for the full weekend and encouraged if tailgating is in your plans. The BullRing Saloon will be open in to the night with campfire parties throughout the racetrack’s grounds. Additional entertainment is being scheduled, and start times can be found online at our “2018 Shootout at the BullRing page on our website www.TheBullringWCIS.com. This Saturday, September 1st marks the 4th of the Jim Pierce Memorial qualifier races which will headline our Labor Day weekend special, in which the SST Modifieds will compete in 100 lap qualifier event that will guarantee the winner a spot in the memorial event in October. The support divisions will also be awarded guaranteed starting spots in the October show, as the Super Stocks, 4 Cylinders, 6 Cylinders, and Vintage Racecars will take to the track. The pit gates for this event will swing open at 4:00pm, front gates at 5:00pm, and racing action following our National Anthem and opening ceremony at 7:00pm. This is where it all begins to take shape, Super Short Track Racing at its finest! Don’t Miss it at The BullRing, Wyoming County International Speedway.
