BLOM BLASTS OFF TO 2023 WISSOTA SUPER STOCK ROOKIE OF THE YEAR TITLE

Saginaw, Minnesota’s Austin Blom entered 33 events during the 2023 racing season and emerged as the ’23 WISSOTA Super Stock Rookie of the Year at season’s end. During the 33 events he entered, he raced to 25 top ten and 11 top five finishes for his efforts and earned runner up honors in the final Halvor Lines Speedway Super Stock Track Point Standings as well.

Blom, 31, has been around racing since 2007, competing in the Pure Stock division from 2008 through 2011 and then after a three-year break, again from 2014 and 2015 before stepping away from the sport for several years before getting into a Midwest Modified in 2022 and then into the Super Stock division this past season.

Of all the races he competed in this season, several specifically stand out to Austin including picking up his first ever Super Stock heat race win on opening night at the Rice Lake Speedway in Rice Lake, Wi and picking up a heat race win on opening night at the Halvor Lines Speedway in Proctor, MN as well. He also mentioned winning a heat race and being #1 in overall passing points on the first night of the Labor Day Shootout at the Hibbing Raceway in Hibbing, MN was cool and to finish runner up in points to Super Stock legend Scott Lawrence in Proctor this season was also very memorable. Obviously being named as the WISSOTA Super Stock Rookie of the Year and winning ROY honors at several local tracks this season as also great memories from the 2023 season as well.

Blom’s #3b is sponsored by Curtis Oil & Propane, Morin’s Siding & Windows, Brent’s Septic Service, J-KO Company, Full Throttle Sign & Graphix, Noonan Industries and Cast Iron Bar & Grill. He is supported on and off the track by his wife Tasha and kids Bailey, Colton and Kaycee.

At the conclusion of the 2023 season, Blom amassed 2700 points to win the Super Stock rookie championship. He was able to win the title by a hefty 602 markers over runner-up David Simpson when the final points were tallied.
When asked what is means to be a WISSOTA Rookie of the Year, Austin quickly said ‘I am very proud to be walking across the stage at the WISSOTA National Banquet as the 2023 WISSOTA Super Stock Rookie of the Year! One of our main goals this year was to come home with this honor and it feels damn good to saw we were able to achieve that. It was a hard-fought battle coming back from a junked car and concussion in June to a blown ending in August but the quote “the comeback will be greater than the setback” always seemed to push us through the low points of the season. I have to thank my amazing wife Tasha, and three kids Bailey, Colton and Kaycee. Racing is a true family passion with us, and without the help and support they show every day this would not have been possible. Id also like to thank my sponsors and fans for their support, along with WISSOTA for making this achievement so special. See everyone in 2024!’

As of today, Austin plans to continue to compete in the Super Stock division when the 2024 season rolls around, in search of his first career Super Stock victory and to contend for wins and track championships at his local tracks during the season.

Congrats!

The WISSOTA Promoters Association exists to benefit its member tracks to enhance safe, profitable and successful dirt track racing, through unified, cost-effective rules, policies and procedures, enacted within a democratic environment.

The WISSOTA Promoters Association was founded in 1981 by eight track promoters in Wisconsin and Minnesota, with intent to offer uniform rules for the promoters and drivers involved in the Late Model division. Soon, the group decided to do the same for the growing Modified division.

In 1984 a voluntary steering committee was formed to oversee the business aspects that developed and to guide the future of WISSOTA’s racing divisions. That steering committee evolved into a board of directors, and the non-profit racing organization became incorporated in 1986.

Promoters who join the organization become, in essence, part owners of the racing organization and are expected to contribute to its overall success. Each November, the WISSOTA annual meeting is held; the member promoters gather annually in this forum to discuss the future of the organization. Member promoters are given the opportunity to vote on all organizational policies and procedures as well as rules for competition in the various racing divisions. WISSOTA’s member promoters and racing associations have spent approximately 30 years of hard work at the annual meetings crafting unique rules for each of the divisions, which are known as WISSOTA Late Models, WISSOTA Modifieds, WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA Street Stocks, WISSOTA Mod Fours, WISSOTA Pure Stocks and WISSOTA Hornets.
