Starks Soaks Up Experience Throughout AGCO Jackson Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – JACKSON, Minn. (July 2, 2019) – Trey Starks learned a lot throughout the 41st annual AGCO Jackson Nationals.
The Gobrecht Motorsports driver had two previous starts at Jackson Motorplex during 360ci winged sprint car competition, but last weekend’s World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series tripleheader marked his 410 debut there.
“We were just about one spot out the whole weekend,” he said. “We made the show Friday, but we were clawing trying to get in every night. We fought some mechanical problems all weekend. Despite the results we had some speed. We just qualified mediocre every night so that hurt us. It’s tough to pass the best guys in the world and we had to try to move forward every night because we put ourselves a little behind.”
Starks qualified 10th quickest in his group before he placed sixth in a heat race and fifth in the Last Chance Showdown – both only one position shy of making the A Main – on Thursday.
Starks timed in ninth quickest in his group, finished seventh in a heat race, earned a runner-up result in the Last Chance Showdown and gained a trio of positions to place 19th in the main event on Friday.
The event concluded on Saturday, when Starks ended fifth in a heat race and seventh in the Last Chance Showdown.
“I could make a lot of excuses and it is tough to race against guys who’ve been racing all year when we only had 10 starts, but the fact is we were just a little off,” he said. “We were changing things all weekend. On the final night we weren’t as good as we needed to be. It took our car three or four laps to get going when everyone else was fast right away.
“On the bright side it’s great to get three straight nights of racing in. We changed a few things around from the 360 to the 410. The track conditions were a little different also. Even though we’d been there twice I hadn’t seen that type of track. It was good for us to learn what to do with the 410 there.”
Starks is slated to compete at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this Friday and Saturday.
