White City, Oregon- Wrapping up the second night of the doubleheader weekend, Southern Oregon Speedway was back at it on Saturday, May 18th, IBEW Local 659 Night.  In addition to the Dave's Home Supply Iron Head Sprints, joining them were the Stone Heating and Air Dwarf Cars, Rapp Racing Super 4's, and Mini Stocks.

Friday night winner Josh King returned to his quick form when he pounced out to the front of the Stone Heating and Air Dwarf Car main event.  The Medford driver set a torrid pace, and Eagle Point's Brock Peters tried to stay with King, but King was too quick.

As the race intensified, a lap nine caution brought the field closer together, adding a thrilling element of suspense. Despite the fierce battle for positions behind him, King's strategic brilliance on the restart allowed him to maintain his lead. The action was momentarily halted on the thirteenth circuit, providing Peters with a final opportunity to challenge King. With less than ten laps remaining, Peters made a daring attempt to overtake King, but the latter's unwavering determination kept him in the lead.

Things would intensify with eight to go as Peters got a great run on King. Peters would edge out King at the line on lap eighteen, but Peters was still under some significant pressure.  A caution with five to go would set things up for a late race shootout.

Peters would check out from the rest of the field and dominate the rest of the distance to score the big win.  Central Point's Trevor Davis rallied to get around King on the final restart for second.  Anthony Pope, of Roseburg, beat out King for third while Roseburg racer Brenden McMaster wrapped up the Top 5.

In the Rapp Racing Super 4's, Dustin Knight left no room for doubt about his dominance.  Seizing the lead on the opening lap, Knight quickly built a substantial gap between himself and the rest of the competition.  Despite the best efforts of his rivals, Knight's lead was unassailable, with only one other driver managing to stay on the lead lap by the time the checkered flag was waved.

John Barger, from Medford, was second, while the winner's wife, Rikki-Lynn Knight, ended her night third.  The rest of the Top 5 consisted of James Scott, of Central Point, in fourth over fifth finishing Medford motorist Cliff Massey.

The Mini Stocks capped the night off with their main event. From Eagle Point, Jim Wooldridge showed the way early but was overtaken by David Steele on lap five.

The only thing that slowed the talent from Talent was six stoppages. Steele flexed his muscles and went uncontested the balance of the distance. Trenton Breshears, from Eagle Point, won the battle for second, while Yreka's Marilyn Yawnick was third. Dennis Jorgensen, also from Yreka, placed fourth and fifth went Grants Pass pilot to Ellie Garrett.

Get ready for the next exhilarating races at Southern Oregon Speedway on Saturday, May 25th, and Sunday, May 26th, for the R. Charles Snyder Salute.  These thrilling nights will feature the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern Sport Mods, Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, and Iron Giant Street Stocks.  Don't miss out on the action, for more details, visit www.southernoregonmotorsports.com.
