Kory Schudy scores at I-35 Speedway

By Ray Cunningham (Winston, MO) -- For the 2nd time in 2021 the Wholesale Batteries USAC MWRA Sprint Cars raced at Mike Johnson’s I-35 Speedway this season. And for the second time in 2021 the victory belonged to Kory Schudy of Battlefield, Missouri driving the JSR #28 of Jon Sawyer.

This time the win came over Chad Goff of Spring Hill, Kansas, Christopher Parkinson of Gladstone, Missouri, Chad Tye of Independence, Mo., and Don Droud Jr. of Lincoln, Nebraska, racing the #1M of Mark Burch completing the top 5.

With Wyatt Burks of Topeka, Kansas, driving the Rumsey 11w, Luke Howard of Overland Park, Ks., Heath Murry of Tonganoxie, Ks., Mark Lane of Grain Valley, Mo., and Justin Johnson of KCK, rounding out the top 10 of a highly unpredictable night of racing at I-35’s palace of speed outside of the victory for Schudy.

First things first: Schudy’s spectacular performance was his 3rd victory of the season in MWRA Non Winged Sprints, and his 6th so far of 2021 overall, a career best for the tall gasman from Southwest, Missouri. The win also combined with a DNF for point leader Wesley Smith driving the Helm Racing/WSR Racing #12, swings the point lead over to Schudy with 4 MWRA races left in 2021.

Meanwhile, Chad Goff, the “Racing Lawman” would finish in the runner up spot after a wild collision coming down to the checkers between 2nd place at the time Droud, and 3rd running Wyatt Burks, after the former ran out of fuel and lost power. For Goff it was his best finish of the season so far, after parking it in victory lane last year at CMS racing with the MWRA.

3rd generation driver Christopher Parkinson would tie his best finish of the season escaping the mess to run 3rd. With Chad Tye having his best ever result in MWRA action coming home in 4th, after starting 13th to earn the “Hard Charger Award”. While earlier in the evening, Kyle Lewis would win the 1st heat race, and Wesley Smith the 2nd heat, on a beautiful night for racing in Northwest, Missouri.
