Rodney Sanders
Pair of Top-5 finishes in Modified portion of Wild West Shootout
Pulling double duty to kick off the 2021 season, Rodney Sanders traveled to FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Ariz.) on Saturday afternoon to compete in the Late Model and Modified ranks for the 15th annual Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout. After nearly getting taken out on the opening lap of his heat race in his Late Model, Rodney came up one spot short of a transfer position with a fourth-place outing. Scoring a runner-up finish behind Terry Phillips, Sanders earned the 21st-starting position for the opening night feature. In a stout field of 66 Modifieds, Sanders jumped up three spots in his heat race to pick up the 8-lap victory. Clawing forward one spot in the 25-lap feature, Rodney notched a fourth-place finish behind Dustin Strand, Lucas Schott, and Shane Sabraski with Tyler Peterson coming in fifth.
For another $5,000-to-win Late Model feature on Sunday afternoon, Rodney grabbed the third and final transfer spot in his heat, which positioned him 13th on the starting grid for the A-Main. Losing one spot in the 40-lap affair, Sanders posted a 14th place outing.
Passing five cars in his heat race in his Modified to place second behind Tyler Wolff, Sanders locked into the second starting position for the $2,000-to-win A-Main. Unable to close the distance on polesitter Jake Gallardo, Rodney scored a runner-up finish behind Gallardo with Shane Sabraski, Calvin Iverson, and Dustin Strand rounding out the Top-5.
