Inside Line Promotions – QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (Nov. 27, 2018) – Robbie Price wrapped up the 2018 season last weekend, competing in the 3rd annual Copper Classic at Arizona Speedway with the ASCS Southwest Region.

Price, who was driving for Casey Minks, marched through the field in the opener to record a seventh-place finish before bad luck befell him during the main event on the final night.

On Friday night, Price advanced from fifth to third in the fifth heat race after he opened the night qualifying 25th. He then raced his way from eighth to fourth in the first B Main to earn a spot into the 25-lap main event.

“We were really good early in the night,” he said. “In the heat race the car was pretty good and I got up to third, which was one spot short of transferring. When I got to third, the top two were gone. We were a little free in the B Main, but were decent and I was able to transfer.”

Price lined up 15th in the main event, but he was involved in an opening lap caution that led to him restarting at the tail of the field. The native of Cobble Hill, B.C., then steadily worked his way back through the field to cross the finish line seventh.

“After getting tangled up on the start, we came from the back and within about the first four laps there was another yellow and I was already back up to 15th where I started,” he noted. “We were really good on the long runs in the main. We kept moving forward and had a good night.”

The Copper Classic finale saw Price qualify 13th quickest and finish fourth in the first heat race. He then won the B Main, leading all 12 laps, to earn a spot into the 30-lap main event.

“We were too free in the heat race,” he said. “I was in the transfer spot for a bit and we just missed it a little and finished fourth, which was one spot out again. In the B Main we started on the pole and led the whole thing and the car felt pretty good.”

In the main event, the nose wing fell off Price’s car approximately five laps into the race. Then, with three laps to go, something broke, causing Price to get into the wall and upside down, thus ending his night. Price was scored 17th in the final rundown.

“I was pretty optimistic going into the main event based on what we did the night before,” he said. “We still moved forward a couple of spots, even after the nose wing fell off. We weren’t that bad when it fell off. I was able to maintain and even pass a few cars. We definitely didn’t have the speed once the nose wing fell off. I feel bad for Casey because it junked the car. I wish we could have run the whole race with the nose wing and finished. It was disappointing to go the whole race and have that happen at the last minute.”

The Copper Classic at Arizona Speedway completed the 2018 season for Price. On the final tally, he had two wins to go along with 16 top-10 finishes, of which seven were top-five performances.
