TULSA, Okla. (April 19, 2017) Back in Arizona after a two day swing through southern New Mexico, the Carlyle Tools ASCS Southwest Region returns to action on Saturday, April 22 at Queen Creek’s Arizona Speedway.
The series second trip of the season, and first in a three race stretch at the Arizona oval, Kevin Thomas, Jr. picked up his first career Winged Sprint Car win at the three-eighths mile oval on March 11.
Going into this Saturday, Colton Hardy sits atop the season point standings with a 34 point advantage over nine time, and defending series champion, Rick Ziehl. On the season, Hardy has four top-five runs with three of those landing on the podium. Among those podiums is a victory at the Central Arizona Speedway in Casa Grande, Ariz. on March 25.
While off to a slower start than usual, Ziehl has three top-fives along with one podium finish; a runner-up to Hardy at Central Arizona. Lance Norick holds third in tour standings with a pair of top-five runs. Vying for Rookie of the Year honors in 2017, Josh Shipley has positioned the Verville Motorsports No. 01 fourth with New Mexico’s Lorne Wofford making up the top-five.
Traveling from Texas, C.J. Hulsey holds sixth with Darrell Sickles seventh. Running part-time until things get rolling in the Brodix ASCS Frontier Region, Montana’s Jeremy McCune is eighth with J.T. Imperial and Wes Wofford making up the series top-ten.
The 24th visit to the Arizona Speedway for the Carlyle Tools ASCS Southwest Region since 2013, Saturday, April 22 will get underway at 7:00 P.M. (MT) and will include IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, Pure Stocks and Robert Horne Ford Bombers.
