COOS BAY DEMO DERBY RULES

A. Any make, model or year of American car, excluding cars with sunroofs, Chrysler Imperial’s, Vans, SUV’s, El Camino’s, Convertibles, Four-Wheel Drives, Pickups, Small cars
B. Remove all air bags, all glass, antennas, headlights, taillights, rear seat, stripping, mirrors, license plate, carpets, door handles, plastic grills and headliners from the car.
C. Holes must be punched in the floorboard around the fuel tank in case of spillage. Gas tank protector allowed, must be welded to the inside of the cage. Protector cannot be welded or bolted to the body.
D. Fuel tank mounted in rear seat area. Securely strapped or mounted. No plumber's tape. All stock fuel tanks must be removed from the underside of the vehicle. Fuel tank must be covered, no plastic fuel cans. Electric fuel pump wiring or switches must be marked. All fuel fittings must be leak proof. Fuel lines must be secure.
E. Seatbelts are mandatory. Double seatbelts preferred. Shoulder harness optional. Seatbelts must be welded or bolted to the floor.
F. Battery must be moved to the inside of the vehicle. Battery must be strapped down or bolted in the battery box. No nylon or bungee cords. Battery must be covered by rubber or heavy plastic.
G. All debris must be removed from the vehicle, including inside the trunk.
H. WELDING of bumpers is ok. OEM bumpers only, no homemade bumpers. No welding bumpers to the body.
I. All deck lids must open for tech inspection
J. Strengthening of tie rods is permitted.
K. Must have flat iron on driver and passenger doors. Maximum is ?” thick by 8” wide. Must be no more than 6” in front and 6” behind the driver's door. Minimum of 4 bolts with a minimum of ¾” bolts. 1 of those bolts must be in both areas of the 6” in front and behind of the drivers and passengers door. Maximum of 8 bolts and a maximum of 1” bolts. Cutter blades are prohibited. Bracing front to rear inside the car is permitted for driver safety. No more than 8” in front of or behind the driver's door. If channel iron is used, the flat side must be out. Halo bars are allowed and may be no bigger than 4” wide by ¼” thick.
L. Mandatory cross bar welded or bolted behind the driver's seat. No more than six inches behind the driver's seat. ( Note: crossbar must be mounted in the middle of the seat back and no higher than the top of the seat).
M. No adding weight to the car (packing of the trunk, doors, frame, or anything).

N. Hood and deck lids must be chained or ready rod, minimum of 4 chains on hood and 4 chains on trunk, maximum of 6 chains if doing ready rod maxim of 4 and max of 1 inch. Only 2 through frames in front and rear allowed. Chains must be ¼” minimum, maximum ?”. No roller type chains.
O. All vehicles must remain stock height, no more than 20” from the bottom of the bumper. 2 leaf spring clamps per spring allowed. No more than 3” wide, no thicker than ?” thick. Coil spring may be welded only to the rear end.
P. Doors must be chained and or bolted with a minimum of ¼” chain, doors can also be welded with strips of flat bar max of 2in wide and ¼ thick. If using flat bar must be weled in strips of 5in on 5in off.
Q. Heavy wire mesh must be installed in place of the windshield.
R. Must have fire holes in the hood, minimum two 6” holes or one 12” hole. If exhaust is run through the hood, this will serve the same purpose. Exhaust can be stock position or can point straight up, out of hood. NO pointing forward or out to sides.
S. Must have air cleaner
T. Maximum wheel size allowed is 15”. NO EXCEPTIONS. No water may be used in tires, NO KNOBBY TIRES, NO STUDDED TIRES, NO MUD OR SNOW TIRES, STREET TIRES ONLY, NO PUTTING TIRES INSIDE TIRES, NO FOAM FILLED TIRES.
U. Pad drivers door ( top to bottom ) and steering wheel for safety. Minimum 1” padding may be used.
V. Radiators must stay in stock position. No homemade radiators. Water only, no antifreeze. No EXCEPTIONS, STOCK ONLY.
W. All cars must be able to stop on at least the axle before entering the arena.
X. Trailer hitches must be removed.
Y. Your car number must be at least 24” high by 2” wide, readable and clean. Must have painted on each side of the car and on the tops so the judges can see them. The roof numbers MUST BE LARGE.
Z. No sign boards on the roof.
AA. IF IT IS NOT IN THE RULES, THEN YOU CAN”T DO IT.

COMPETITION RULES

  1. No hitting drivers door.
  2. No sandbagging.
  3. No intentionally hitting a non flagged car.
  4. Drivers must wear approved helmets.
  5. Drivers must always stay in the car during competition. Exiting car during competition immediate disqualification. If cars get stuck together that's where you stay. Remember this is a Demolition Derby! IF you don't feel safe, wave at flaggers to stop the derby so you can get out of the car. DO NOT get out until you are met by an official!
  6. If the driver is under the age of 18, he or she must have a signed release form from their respective legal guardian. No one under the age of 16 can drive in the derby.
  7. In the event of a roll over, FIRE or injury and at the discretion of an official ALL CARS MUST STOP DEMOING.
  8. Drivers must obey the following official signs:
    A: Green flag- GO
    B: Red flag & Air horn- STOP
    C: Black flag- disqualification
    E: Checkered Flag- end
  9. You must wear long pants, no shorts , and preferably a long sleeved t-shirt. Must wear Boots and a Fire suit is recommended.
  10. You may be refused the right to race by an official for any just reason.
  11. A flag must be attached to your car, a minimum of 24” above roof and at least
    12 x12”. The flag must be able to be pulled down completely when you are out of competition.
  12. Drivers will be responsible for their pit crew.
  13. Last car running is not necessarily the winner. You will be judged on proper derby behavior.
  14. ALCOHOL AND DRUGS IN PITS MEANS IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  15. NO ARGUING WITH OFFICIALS. DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
