Nickles wins ‘Run For The Rabbit’, Sherman doubles up in Thunderstocks and Modifieds
After being postponed twice due to weather, the ‘Run For The Rabbit’, the annual event honoring the memory of Limaland favorite Travis “The Rabbit” Miller, was held at Limaland Motorsports park Friday night under beautiful weather conditions.
Harrod, Ohio’s Jac Nickles piloted his yellow No.31 to victory in the GLSS Ohio CAT Sprint Car Series A feature. In Lock Sixteen Thunderstock feature action it was No. 60 Todd Sherman picking up the win, then jumping in his No. 65 DIRTcar UMP Modified to win that feature as well.
Kicking off feature action were the Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks with their 15 lap A Main. No. 74D Craig Dippman and No. 1 Dylan Drake would lead the field to the initial green, with No. 60 Todd Sherman being the victim of the field checking up in front of him and spinning, forcing him to go to the tail as the field would face a complete restart. Dippman would lead the initial 5 laps before slowing with mechanical problems, forcing him out of the race. No. 82 Chris Douglas would inherit the lead with Drake in second until Drake would spin in turn 4 on lap six, bringing out the caution once again. Sherman put on a clinic making his way through the field to take the lead on lap eight and would survive multiple cautions to pick up the win. Douglas would finish second, with No. 22T Tony Anderson third, UNOH Racer Houston Null fourth in the No. 11, and No. 8 Zach Rush completing the top 5.
Next up was the GLSS Ohio CAT Sprint Car 25 lap A Main honoring the memory of Travis Miller, who competed in the 360 Sprint Cars until he passed away in 1999. Wapakoneta, Ohio’s Devon Dobie in the No. 23 and Jac Nickles in No. 31 would lead the 21-car field to the green flag with Dobie taking the early lead. Nickles would slip past Dobie to grab the top spot-on lap 2, before action was slowed a lap later for a 3-car pileup in turn 2 that saw the No. 20i of Kelsey Ivy tip onto its side, bringing out the red flag. Ivy would walk away unharmed. As racing resumed, Kasey Jedrzejek would power by on the outside of Nickles in turn one, looking to grab his second straight Limaland victory in the Ed Neumeister owned No. 11N. Nickles would keep Jedrzejek in striking distance, while having to hold off challenges from the No. X of Mike Keegan. On lap 20, Nickles found his opportunity to slip past Jedrzejek on the inside of turn 4, taking the lead and cruising to his first GLSS victory. Jedrzejek would finish second, with No. 71H Max Stambaugh third, Keegan fourth and No. 22H Randy Hannagan fifth.
Completing the night were the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds in their 20-lap feature event. No. 4 Jason Kinney and UNOH Racer Brayden Weller in the UNOH No. 01 would make up the front row. Kinney would lead early, with Weller second, as UNOH Racer Randy Giroux in the No. 1 would battle with No. 65 Todd Sherman for third. Caution flags on laps two, three, and four would slow competition, until the field ran green to the finish, Sherman would battle past Weller for second, and No. 16 Jeff Koz would do the same to grab third. Sherman would take the lead on lap 7, and never look back, winning over Koz, No. 5X Jerry Bowersock, Kinney and Giroux.
