HARD WORK PAYS OFF: Jake Martens Holds of Jeremy Huish at Rush County; Wins 2024 Speedweek Tour

LaCrosse, Kansas 7/14/2024 (www.urssracing.com) - The United Rebel Sprint Series presented by RacinDirt.Com traveled to LaCrosse, Kansas on Sunday to conclude its 4-day Speedweek Tour.

Nineteen drivers checked into the quarter-mile “Bullring” for the night's action. Once preliminary action was concluded and the top 8 redraw was done, Kyler Johnson and Jake Martens were positioned to lead the field to green for 25-laps.

On lap one, the field quickly started to jump top-to-bottom, searching for the fastest way around. As the field came out of turn four, Brian Herbert made contact with another car, sending the #97 into a barrel roll. Rush County EMS quickly attended to Herbert, who later walked away from the carnage.

Once the action came back to the green flag, Jake Martens quickly jumped to the lead, as Brody Brown followed closely behind. As the field began to catch lap traffic, Brown would spin out causing the action to pause.

Another restart meant there was another opportunity, but this time for the #20 of Jeremy Huish. Lap after lap, Huish continued to rip the top side, as he closed in on Jake Martens. Jeremy Huish got a massive run coming out of turn four. Huish darted his #20 machine to the inside of Martens, attempting to slide up the #17x, but Martens had the momentum on the high shelf. Going into turn 3, Martens moved to the top to block Huish and Martens #17X had enough of a margin the rest of the way.

“I was just cruising honestly, and I started to hear them coming on the right side, and I know it’s not a lap car going that fast up there,” Jake Martens said after the race. “Huish did what he does and tried to slide me there, and I had to find another fifteen percent I didn’t think I had,” he added.

The series will now head to Hutchinson, Kansas’s SaltCity Racing at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. Friday will feature practice and qualifying, with heat races and features on Saturday.
