McDowell closes out 2020 season with Last Call at Charlotte

Wednesday night found Dale McDowell in action at the Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, N.C.) for the Last Call, the event replacing the Can-Am World Finals due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Drawing 55 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries, Dale followed up the second fastest time in his qualifying group behind Kyle Larson with a 10-lap heat race victory. On Thursday afternoon, McDowell started the night off with a heat race, sending him into the redraw for the $12,000-to-win finale. Receiving the pole position, Dale settled into second on the opening circuit and would fade three spots in the remaining distance of the 50-lapper to finish fifth behind Tim McCreadie, Ricky Weiss, Brandon Overton, and Chris Madden.

After taking Friday night off, Dale headed to East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Ala.) on Saturday afternoon for the 46th annual National 100. After topping the speed charts in time trials to pick up a $3,000 award, McDowell cruised to a 10-lap heat race victory, which positioned him second on the starting grid for the Sunday night’s $15,000-to-win National 100.

Blasting into the lead on the opening lap, Dale set a comfortable pace for the first 82 laps until his right-rear tire began showing wear, allowing Parker Martin to sneak by. After slipping back to fifth, McDowell visited the infield hot pit on lap 98 to replace his tire for the final two circuits. Charging from the tail, Dale McDowell notched a fifth place finish behind Joseph Joiner, Christian Hanger, Ahnna Parkhurst, and Rodney Martin.
