Matjoulis and Swindell SpeedLab eSports Team Wins iRacing Championship

Inside Line Promotions – AVON, Ind. (Aug. 27, 2019) – The Swindell SpeedLab eSports Team produced the top-two finishers in the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series season on iRacing.

Blake Matjoulis wrapped up the $10,000-to-win championship by capturing the season finale on Monday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, where his second straight win and third of the season guided him to a 17-point victory over teammate Kendal Tucker.

“Unbelievable, baby, unbelievable,” Matjoulis exclaimed during a post-race interview with the iRacing eSports Network. “I’m in shock right now. I can’t believe it. It’s just awesome. Knowing that those guys were right behind me and one mistake would cost me the championship, the pressure was I don’t even know what to say. I had butterflies all week thinking about it.”

Matjoulis, who is a 17-year-old from Ashville, N.Y., starting his senior year of high school next week, recorded a podium finish during each of the final five races of the season and seven times overall. He ended with nine top 10s in the 10 races.

“Right from Week 1 it was going to be tough, especially coming off winning the championship in the pro qualifying series,” he said. “The pressure was on from Week 1 and it was going to be tough being against the best. I wasn’t used to racing that type of caliber of drivers. We moved the momentum from the qualifying series into the main series. We started Week 1 off a little weak. The week after we went from 17th to third and I knew we’d be good. The confidence led me to the belief I could win the championship.”

In addition to the prize money, Matjoulis is also receiving an opportunity to test a Clint Bowyer owned late model at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., this fall.

Tucker earned a runner-up result in both the race and the championship standings, which netted him $4,000.

“If I couldn’t have got that $10,000 there’s nobody else I’d rather have it than Blake Matjoulis,” he said during an interview with the iRacing eSports Network. “I can’t even think of how many hours and how many laps we’ve put in since the qualifier series started.”

Tucker, who is a 20-year-old college student at Greensboro College in Greensboro, N.C., finished the season with three runner-up results, four podiums, seven top fives and eight top 10s.

“The season overall was a big success not only for myself, but for the team perspective,” he said. “There was always a SpeedLab car up front each week. I knew I had to be consistent each week and try to get every top five I could. A couple of weeks we had some bad luck and wasn’t able to rebound. I wish I could have had Week 8 and Week 9 back. But if I couldn’t win the championship I’m glad Blake did.”

Teammates Adam Elby, Matthew McKinney and James Edens placed eighth, ninth and 18th, respectively, in the season finale.

The Swindell SpeedLab eSports Team finished with four wins in the 10-race series.
