Inside Line Promotions – LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (May 28, 2019) – Kraig Kinser posted a pair of top-10 finishes during the Patriot Nationals and he garnered the Hard Charger Award during the Memorial Day Spectacle presented by KOI Auto Parts to highlight a busy week.
Kinser competed in four World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series shows in a week span beginning a week ago Tuesday at Bridgeport Speedway in Swedesboro, N.J. He qualified 21st, but rallied from seventh to fourth in a heat race before ending the night 13th in the main event.
“We didn’t qualify good, but we raced our way through the heat,” he said. “We went forward at the beginning of the feature and then backward in the middle and forward at the end to get us back to about where we started. We ended in a better position than where we qualified so it was a good day.”
Kinser then ventured to The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., for the Patriot Nationals doubleheader on Friday and Saturday. He timed in fifth quickest out of 31 drivers on Friday before a third-place run in a heat race lined him up eighth for the A Main.
“We had good qualifying laps there and the car was rolling around really, really nice,” he said. “It was a joy to drive. It was quick every time we hit the track. We were racing pretty hard for about fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh. We were racing against some tough competition. That’s where we want to be every week. We had Profile by Sanford on the car so it was great to battle for a top five both nights for them.”
Kinser ended sixth in the main event on Friday.
He returned even stronger on Saturday, qualifying third quickest and placing second in a heat race to make the dash. A charge from fourth to second in the dash lined him up on the outside of the front row for the A Main.
Kinser led the first 16 laps before he dropped to second in traffic. He remained in that position until a flat tire relegated him to the work area with only a handful of laps remaining. Kinser was able to return to the track and he rallied to finish ninth.
“You never want to have that happen, but it’s part of racing,” he said. “Everybody ran out of tire at the end. At the time it was frustrating. At the same time at least we got back out there. There are silver linings you can take.”
The holiday weekend wrapped up on Monday at Lawrenceburg Speedway, where Kinser qualified 23rd quickest. An eighth-place heat race run was followed by a fifth-place outing in the Last Chance Showdown, which earned a transfer into the back of the main event.
“We were off a little in qualifying and really were off until the A Main,” he said. “We got slowly moving through the race. We were able to work a different line for the main part. The top line was the more dominant line around there. You could see guys throwing sliders and when slide jobs were happening I was good enough I could hang around the bottom and gain some ground. It was good to salvage a solid run out of a tough start to the night.”
Kinser’s rally from 23rd to 11th earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
He will resume action this Friday and Saturday at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn., during the Music City Outlaw Nationals with the World of Outlaws.
