Full Write Up Results For 9.7.24 Shelpman Continues Perfect Season
Imperial, PA (9.8.24)
After nearly a month off due to rain, PPMS was back in action on Saturday night for Berks $1 Hot Dog Night headlined by the Rohrich Automotive/Chevy Performance RUSH Late Model $1,500 to win special. PPMS would see 10 heat races, five feature events, and an Australian Pursuit. Christian Schneider (75), from Lower Burrell, would win the Rohrich Automotive/Chevy Performance RUSH Late Model feature, while Stephen Shelpman (25R), from Pleasant Hills, would not only win the Australian Pursuit for the Fuel Required Hobby Stocks, but he would also win the Fuel Required Hobby Stock feature. Nick Kocuba (10), from Burgettstown, would win the Pittsburgh Truck Center Penn Ohio Pro Stock feature, while Joe Jacobs (27), from Leisenring, would pick up the win for the Crawford Auto Repair Open Four Cylinders, and Gavin Kokolis (91), from Oakdale, would pick up win number five on the season for the All Ways Safe Flagging and Traffic Control Young Guns.
27 Rohrich Automotive/Chevy Performance RUSH Late Models were on hand to battle it out for the $1,500 top prize, and in the feature, Christian Schneider (75) would start on the pole. Starting to his outside in second was Cole Petrelle (184), from Follansbee, West Virginia. The second row consisted of Braden Dillinger (14) from Dawson, starting in third, and Zakary Kimbrew (51Z), from Grafton, West Virginia, starting in fourth. When the green flag waved at the start of the event, Schneider (75) would take the early lead with Dillinger (14) in second, and Petrelle (184) in third by lap two. Lap two also saw a red flag when two cars tangled on the front stretch. Both drivers were okay, and once the mess was cleaned up, Schneider (75) would choose the inside on the restart and retain his lead over the field. Lap four had Schneider (75) still leading, Dillinger (14) still in second, and ninth-starting Kyle Lukon (184L) now in third. However, a lap five caution would slow the pace and re-rack the field with Schneider (75) again choosing the inside on the restart. When green replaced yellow, Schneider (75) would once again retain his lead over the field. By lap 10, Schneider (75) and the front-runners would enter lapped traffic. With six laps remaining in the event, the final caution would come for a car that had trouble on the back stretch. Schneider (75) would lead the restart with Lukon (184L) flanked to his outside. Schneider (75) would lead the remaining six laps in the event and cruise to a $1,500 payday. He was followed to the line by Lukon (184L) in second, Tim Shaffer (45) in third, Ben Policz (14B) in fourth, and Brandon Burgoon (60) rounded out the top five. The three heat race winners were Schneider (75), Garrett Paugh (03), and Damian Bidwell (1/2PT).
In the Fuel Required Hobby Stock Australian Pursuit, Shelpman (25R) led all eight laps and picked up the win with Marc Corio (14), from South Fayette, and Leroy Brown (40B), from Aliquippa, the only other two drivers not to be passed.
In the Fuel Required Hobby Stock feature, Natasha Davis (05), from Pleasant Hills, started on the pole with Joe Brown Sr (74), from Aliquippa, flanked to her outside. Karlee Kovacs (221K), from Carnegie, started third, and Gary Koteles (65K), from Stockdale, started in fourth. When the green flag waved, Kovacs (221K) took the early lead. However, a lap two caution would slow the pace and re-rack the field, and when green replaced yellow, Logan Koteles (64K) took over the lead. However, that lead was short-lived as Shelpman (25R) took over the lead with five laps in the books. Lap eight saw another caution when the 64 of Tom Anton had a right front flat. Shelpman (25R) would take the inside on the restart, and despite another caution on lap nine, he would go on to lead all remaining laps in the event to pick up his fourth win in his four starts this season in the Hobby Stock division. He was followed by L. Koteles (64K) in second, Jonathan Koteles (2K) in third, Leroy Brown (40B) in fourth, and Gary Koteles (65K) rounded out the top five. The heat race winners were Leroy Brown (40B) and Logan Koteles (64K).
In the Pittsburgh Truck Center Penn Ohio Pro Stock 15-lap feature, Ricky Steigerwald (00), from Moon, started on the pole with Nick Kocuba (10) flanked to his outside in second. AJ Poljak (36), from Baldwin, started in third, and Jason Fosnaught (25M), from Tarentum, started in fourth. At the start of the event, Kocuba (10) had the lead through lap three, and then on lap four, a caution would slow the pace and reset the field. Kocuba (10) would lose the lead to Poljak (36) on the restart. However, under another caution on lap seven, Poljak (36) was forced to the pits for an unknown car issue which gave the lead back to Kocuba (10) before the ensuing restart. Kocuba (10) would keep the lead on the restart but give it up to Steigerwald (00) on lap eight. Kocuba (10) would take the lead back on lap 10, lead the remaining laps in the event, and go on to pick up win number two on the season. He was followed by Steigerwald (00) in second, Greg Beach (1K) in third, Dale Tuche (310) in fourth, and Tony Magil (M5) completed the top five. The heat race winners were Shelpman (17S) and Fosnaught (25M).
In the Crawford Auto Repair Open Four Cylinder 10-lap feature, Joe Campbell (40C), from Austintown, Ohio, started on the pole with Joe Jacobs (27) flanked to his outside and starting in second. Tiffany McElhose (24), from Plum, started in third, and Cameron Hollister (44), from McDonald, started in fourth. When the green flag waved at the start of the 10-lap event, John Gill (19G) would make contact with the back gate and bring out the red flag before the field could complete a lap. The driver was okay, and when the field went from red to yellow, Campbell (40C) would retire to the pits before the complete restart would ensue, which put Jacobs (27) on the pole. When the field was able to return to green flag conditions, Jacobs (27) would come away with the early lead. With the race going from green to checkers in record fashion, Jacobs (27) would lead all 10 laps and cruise to the win. He was followed to the line by McElhose (24) in second, Paul Koffler III (48) in third, Cameron Hollister (44) in fourth, and Gill (19G) rounded out the top five. The heat race winners were Paul Koffler III (48) and Joe Jacobs (27).
Last but not least were the All Ways Safe Flagging and Traffic Control Young Guns for their eight-lap feature, and Sadie Snatchko (56), from Oakdale, would start on the pole with Gavin Kokolis (91), also from Oakdale, flanked to her outside starting in second. The second row consisted of Anthony Uddstrom (18), from Pittsburgh, starting in third, and Hunter Vohn (124), from Industry, rounded out the four-car field. At the start of the event, Kokolis (91) would have the lead at the line. Lap two through seven had Kokolis (91) still leading, Vohn (124) in second, and Uddstrom (18) in third. The event’s only caution would come on lap seven when Vohn (124) had trouble at the exit of turn two. A two-lap shootout would ensue, but Uddstrom (18) would retire to the pits under caution, which left Kokolis (91) leading the restart with Snatchko (56) beside him. Kokolis (91) would lead the two remaining laps in the event and go on to pick up win number five on the season. Snatchko (56) finished second, Uddstrom (18) third, and Vohn (124) fourth. The heat race winner was Kokolis (91).
