47 Rohrich Automotive/Chevrolet Performance RUSH Late Models were on hand for the first Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service/Gunter Honey RUSH Touring series event PPMS would host this season with the 30-Lap, $4,000 to win, Herb Scott Memorial.
PPMS would see qualifying, 12 heat races, three b-mains, and a six-lap dash. And six feature events. Tim Shaffer (45), from Aliquippa, would win the Herb Scott Memorial while Kyle Zimmerman (31), from Albion, would win the RUSH Non-Quailifyer’s race. Chris Schneider (55), from Lower Burrell, brought home another win for the Pittsburgh Trucking Center Pro Stocks while Garrett O’Patchen (25), from Scott Township, got the win for the Fuel Required Hobby Stocks. Jacob Chipps (38D), from New Cumberland, West Virginia, won the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder feature, and Gavin Kokolis (91), from Oakdale, picked up another win for the All Ways Safe Flagging And Traffic Control Young Guns.
Six heat races were needed to break up the 47 RUSH Late Models with the top three from each heat making the show, with the rest having to race through one of three b-mains. Also, the winner from each heat would enter the six-lap dash to determine the first six starting spots in the 30-lap feature event. After starting on the pole in the dash, Daryl Charlier (42), from Midway, had car trouble which allowed Shaffer (45) to win, ensuring him the pole in the 30-lap feature event. Brandon Burgoon (60), from McDonald, would start in second on Shaffer’s (45) outside. The second starting row consisted of Jared Miley (75), from Pittsburgh, who started third, and Brock Pinkerous (555), from Ellenville, New York, who started fourth. When the green flag dropped for the first of 30 laps, Shaffer (45) would pull away with the early lead until lap five when the event’s first caution would slow the pace for a car that had trouble in turn three. Shaffer (45) and Pinkerous (555) would lead the restart with Shaffer (45) continuing his lead over the field. Shaffer (45) and the front runners would contend with lapped traffic around lap 11 which allowed Pinkerous (555) to close the gap on Shaffer (45). Pinkerous (555) was able to make his move on lap 15 and take the lead away from Shaffer (45) in lapped traffic. However, another caution would slow the pace on the same lap. When green replaced yellow, Pinkerous (555) would keep his lead over the field, but only two laps later on lap 17, the caution flag was out again. Pinkerous (555) chose the outside on the restart, but it didn’t matter because Shaffer (45) would once again take over the lead when the field returned to green flag conditions. Those conditions were short-lived as lap 18 would see more yellow and another restart. Shaffer (45) would again lead the restart but this time he had Dave Hess Jr (44) lining up to his outside in second after starting 21st. When the green flag waved, Hess Jr (44) would try for the lead on the low side with Shaffer (45) on the high side, but Shaffer (45) would keep the lead. With Shaffer (45) still leading on lap 22, Pinkerous (555) would take over second knocking Hess Jr (44) down to third. With five laps remaining in the event, Shaffer (45) had a half of a straight-away lead over the field, and with four laps remaining, he would enter lapped traffic which put even more distance between him and second place. Shaffer (45) would lead the remaining laps of the event and go on to win his first Herb Scott Memorial and take the $4,000 to win the grand prize to the bank. He was followed by Pinkerous (555) in second, Hess Jr (44) in third, Kyle Lukon (184L) in fourth, and Logan Roberson (17R) in fifth after having to make the feature through one of the b-mains. The heat race winners were: Brandon Burgoon (60), Jared Miley (75), Tim Shaffer (45), Kyle Lukon (184L), Daryl Charlier (42), and Brock Pinkerous (555). The b-main winners were: Logan Roberson (17R), Cole Petrelle (184P), and Dave Hess Jr (44). Shaffer (45) won the dash. Fast time was: Brandon Burgoon (60) - 18.889.
In the RUSH Non-Quailifyiers 10-lap feature, Kyle Zimmerman (31) would take the early lead with Zach Gunn (17G), from McDonald, following him into second. With the race going green to checkered in record fashion, Zimmerman (31) would lead all 10 laps and win the event. Z. Gunn (17G) finished second, Tommy Schirnhofer (8S) finished third, Austin Hauser (51) finished fourth, and Matt Benard (15) rounded out the top five.
In the Pittsburgh Trucking Center Pro Stock feature, AJ Poljak (36), from Baldwin, would start on the pole. Starting to his outside and in second was Dale Tuche (310), from Cheswick. The second row consisted of Chris Schneider (55) starting in third, and Tony Magill (M5), from Jefferson Hills, starting in fourth. When the green flag waved, Poljak (36) would appear to have the early lead but Schneider (55) would have the lead at the flag stand. Schneider (55), Poljak (36), and Nick Kocuba (10) would run one, two, and three respectively through lap two. A lap five caution would slow the pace for a car that spun in turn four. Schneider (55) would choose the outside on the restart and he would keep his lead over the field with Christian Schneider (56) following him into second and Poljak (36) now in third. Despite a lap 13 caution for debris on the track, Chris Schneider (55) would go on to pick up another Pittsburgh Trucking Center Pro Stock win. He was followed by Christian Schneider (56) in second, Poljak (36) in third, Stephen Shelpman (17S) in fourth, and Nick Kocuba (10) would round out the top five. The heat race winners were: Chris Schneider (55) and AJ Poljak (36).
Gary Koteles (65K), from Stockdale, would start on the pole in the Fuel Required Hobby Stock feature while Garrett O’Patchen (25) would start on the outside in second place. Cole Cochran (72), from McDonald, would start in third, and Marc Corio (14), from South Fayette, would start in fourth. At the start of the event, G. Koteles (65K) would take the early lead but a pair of cautions early on would rerack the field for the restarts. G. Koteles (65K) would lead until lap seven when his son, Jonathan Koteles (2K), from Stockdale, would take over the lead. Another caution would come on lap 10 and J. Koteles (2K) would choose the outside on the restart and when green replaced yellow, O’Patchen (25) would take over the lead. O’Patchen (25) would lead the final laps of the event and go on to pick up his first Fuel Required Hobby Stock win of the season. He was followed by Corio (14) in second, Leroy Brown (40B) in third, G. Koteles (65K) in fourth, and Karlee Kovacs (221K) completed the top five. The heat race winners were: Tom Anton (64) and Garrett O’Patchen (25).
The Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder 10-lap feature had Jacob Chipps (38D) starting on the pole. Starting to his outside and in second was John Gill (19G), from Atlasburg. When the green flag dropped, Chipps (38D) took the early lead with Gill (19G) following him into second. They ran one and two for all 10 laps as Chipps (38D) got the win. Tyler Hollister (69) finished third, Susie Rudolph (55) finished fourth, and Cameron Hollister (44) completed the top five. The heat race winner was: John Gill (19G).
In the All Ways Safe Flagging And Traffic Control six-lap Young Guns feature, Anthony Manganello (50), from Baden, started on the pole. Starting to his outside and in second was Sadie Snatchko (56), from Oakdale. Manganello (50) led through lap two when a caution would slow the pace for a car in turn two. On the restart, Gavin Kokolis (91) took over the lead. Kokolis (91) would lead the remaining laps of the event, en route to his first win of the season. He was followed by Manganello (50) in second, Anthony Uddstrome (18), from Pittsburgh, in third, Nathan Olenik (99), from Crescent, in fourth, and Zoey Knight (78Z) rounded out the top five.
