Inaugural Hindsight Hustle A Success at ppms with edge of your seat racing

Imperial, PA (8.20.23) | For Immediate Release

After being rained out again last week, Mother Nature was on our side as she presented PPMS with a beautiful summer evening for the Inaugural Hindsight Hustle Presented By 20 20 Landscaping & Tree Service for the Rohrich RUSH Dirt Late Models who ran twin 20-lap features on Saturday night. PPMS would see seven heat races and six feature events. Kyle Lukon (184L), from Burgettstown, would make a late race pass to win the first 20-lap feature for the Rohrich RUSH Late Models.

In their second 20-lap feature, The Steel City Outlaw, Tim Shaffer (45), from Aliquippa, started on the pole and led all 20 laps to pick up the win.

Cody Koteles (1K), from Stockdale, would pass Nick Kocuba (10), from Burgettstown, on the last lap coming out of turn four to pick up the win for the Penn Ohio Pro Stocks.

In Hobby Stock action, Logan Koteles (64K), from Stockdale, would pass Stephen Shelpman (17P), from Pleasant Hills, in turn three to pick up the Hobby Stock win.

Kyle Janas (88), from Coraopolis, would pick up his sixth win of the season and fifth win in a row in the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder 10-lap feature.

And last but not least, Sadie Snatchko (56), from Oakdale, took advantage of a restart in the All Ways Safe Flagging & Traffic Control Young Guns 12-lap feature to pick up the win.

24 Rohrich RUSH Late Models were on hand to battle it out for the Inaugural Hindsight Hustle Presented By 20 20 Landscaping & Tree Service. The Late Models were broken into three heat races with the top four from each heat making the redraw to determine the top 12 starting spots for feature number one. Ben Policz (14B) would redraw P1 and start on the pole for the first 20-lap main event. Mike Reft (9R) was on Ben’s outside starting P2

When the green flag was dropped for feature number one, Policz (14B), Reft (9R), and Nico Dabecco (F1), who started P6, were in a mad dash to get to turn one first. Policz (14B) would come out of turns one and two as the race leader with Reft (9R), Dabecco (F1), and Brian Huchko (60H) in tow.

Lap three would hold the race’s first caution when the 8S of Tommy Schirnhofer was stopped on the front stretch. Policz (14B), and Reft (9R) would lead the restart with the second row of Huchko (60H) restarting third and Dabecco (F1) restarting fourth. Policz (14B) would keep his lead over the field when they returned to green flag conditions. They would record five more laps until the caution was back out on lap eight for a car that was having trouble. Again, Policz (14B), and Reft (9R) would lead the restart.

When green replaced yellow, Policz (14B) would retain his lead. The front runners would eventually enter lapped traffic as the laps wound down for this Inaugural event. Reft (9R) would lose the steering rack and have to retire to the pits which paved the way for Kyle Lukon (184L) to take over second place and start to chase down the race leader Policz (14B). As the front runners danced through lapped traffic, Policz (14B) would get held up by a lapped car which allowed Lukon (184L) to take over the lead. He would lead the final two laps of the event to go on and win feature number one for the Inaugural Hindsight Hustle Presented By 20 20 Landscaping & Tree Service. Following him to the line was Policz (14B) in second, Dabecco (F1) third, Cole Petrelle (184P) in fourth, and Brandon Burgoon (5X) would complete the top five. The heat race winners were Policz (14B), Schirnhofer (8S), and Bubeck (4). Tim Shaffer was the hard charger starting P22 and finishing P9.

The hard charger of feature one was to be the pole sitter for feature number two which meant the Steel City Outlaw, Tim Shaffer (45) would start P1 for the second feature. The rest of the field would invert how they finished in feature number one which put Reft (9R) on the outside starting in second, but with having car troubles in the first feature, Reft (9R) would choose to start at the tail of the field, allowing Jake Gunn (14G) to start P2.

When the green flag dropped in feature number two, Shaffer (45) would come away with the early lead as the field drag-raced to see who would make it to turns one and two and come out on top. With Shaffer (45) leading, Logan Zarin (33X) was in second, and Jake Gunn (14G) was in third. Shaffer (45) would hit lapped traffic by lap five. Eventually, Gunn (14G) would take second away from Zarin (33X).

The event's first caution would come at the halfway point on lap 10 for the spinning 18L of Chris Lander who got turned around in turn two. Shaffer (45) chose the inside on the restart putting Gunn (14G) to his outside. Zarin (33X) was restarting third, with Cole Petrelle (184P) restarting fourth, and Brandon Burgoon (5X) restarting fifth. When the field returned to green flag racing, Shaffer (45) had the lead going into turn one, but Petrelle (184P) would sneak past him to take the lead exiting turn two, but Shaffer (45) would quickly retake the lead in turns three and four.

Another caution would slow the pace and rerack the field on lap 11 when the 17G of Zach Gunn and The 5X of Burgoon would tangle and hit the outside wall between turns three and four. Both drivers were okay but their cars were in bad shape. Shaffer (45) and Petrelle (184P) would lead the restart, and Kyle Lukon (184L) would restart third after starting the event P8.

When green replaced yellow, Shaffer (45) would keep his lead but he now had Lukon (184L) behind him in second. Lukon (184L) was all over Shaffer (45) for most of the remaining laps of the event, but the Steel City Outlaw Tim Shaffer (45) would hold off Lukon (184L) to win feature number two for the inaugural Hindsight Hustle Presented By 20 20 Landscaping & Tree Service. Lukon (184L) finished second, Zarin (33X) third, J. Gunn (14G) fourth, and Policz (14B) would round out the top five.

In the Penn Ohio Pro Stock 15-lap feature, Nick Kocuba (10), from Burgettstown, would start on the pole with defending division champion, AJ Poljak (36), from Baldwin, to his outside in second. At the start of the event, Kocuba (10), Poljak (36), and Cody Koteles (1K) would run one, two, and three respectively. The top three would remain the same until lap 10 when C. Koteles (1K) would take second place away from Poljak (36) and he would also begin to run down Kocuba (10) with five laps remaining. On the last lap coming out of turn four, Koteles (1K) would pass Kocuba (10) as the duo raced door to door to the finish line with Koteles (1K) picking up the win. Kocuba (10) finished second, Poljak (36) finished third, Dale Tuche (310) finished fourth, and Mike Harris (18) would complete the top five. The heat race winner was Poljak (36).

The Hobby Stock 15 lap feature was up next and Stephen Shelpman (17P) would start on the pole with Matt Benard (15) starting to his outside in second place. When the green flag waved, Shelpman (17P) would have the lead by turn one, and by lap two Benard (15) was in second and P6 starting Logan Koteles (64K) was already up to third place. Jonathan Koteles (2K) would begin to put pressure on his younger brother, L. Koteles (64K) for third and he would take it over on lap six which moved L. Koteles (64K) down to fourth.

The event’s first caution came on lap seven and Shelpman (17P) would choose the inside on the restart. Benard (15) would restart second, L. Koteles (64K) restarted third and J. Koteles (2K) restarted fourth. When green replaced yellow, Shelpman (17P) once again had a clear lead by turn one. L. Koteles (64K) used that restart to his advantage by taking over second place.

By lap 11, L. Koteles (64K) caught Shelpman (17P) and began to pressure him for the lead. He was all over Shelpman (17P) from lap 11 until the final lap. As the duo raced down the back stretch and into turn three, L. Koteles (64K) would get the inside advantage on Shelpman (17P) and he would take the lead with that move in turn three and go on to win the event. Shelpman (17P) finished second, Benard (15) third, J. Koteles (2K) fourth, and Joey Brown (48) would complete the top five. The heat race winners were Shelpman (17P) and Benard (15).

The Crawford Auto Repair 10-lap feature had Kyle Janas (88) starting on the pole. To his outside starting in second was Tyler Hollister (69), from McDonald, while Susie Rudolph (5R), from Steubenville, Ohio, started third, and John Gill (19G), from Burgettstown, would start fourth. When the green flag dropped, it was a mad dash to turn one with Janas (88) using the high side to his advantage as he would come away with the early lead.

Lap three had Janas (88) still leading the field with Rudolph (5R) in second, and Hollister (69) in third. The top three would remain the same through lap six and on lap seven, the event’s first caution would slow the pace as Rudolph (5R) had car trouble and stopped on the front stretch.

Janas (88) would choose the outside on the restart which put Hollister (69) to his inside in second. When the green flag waved, Janas (88) would keep his lead over the field. He would lead the remaining three laps in the event and go on to pick up his fifth consecutive win and his sixth win of the season. Hollister (69) finished second, Rudolph (5R) finished third, and Gill (19G) finished fourth to round out the field. The Four Cylinders did not run a heat race.

The All Ways Safe Flagging & Traffic Control Young Guns 12-lap feature was last but not least, and Evan Strouse (54), from Lower Burrell, would start on the pole. Starting to his outside and in second place was Sadie Snatchko (56), while Kiersten Chernik (5X) started third, and AJ Manganello (50) completed the second row starting in fourth.

When the green flag dropped, Strouse (54) would take the early lead. The event’s first caution would come on lap five for two cars that got tangled up between turns one and two. On the restart, Snatchko (56) would use it to her advantage to take over the lead. She would lead the remaining laps of the event to pick up another All Ways Safe Flagging & Traffic Control Young Guns win. She was followed to the line by Gavin Kokolis (91) in second, Manganello (50) in third, Zoey Knight (78Z) in fourth, and Cheyenne Hollister (29M) would round out the top five.
