frederickson is the BOSS at PPMS

Mother Nature thought she was the boss on Saturday at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway when at 2:30 p.m., she dumped heavy rain on the speedway grounds. However, the summer thunderstorm didn’t last long and the skies would clear for a beautiful night of racing and family entertainment as the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series came to town for their lone trip of the season to Dirt’s Monster Half Mile. PPMS would see qualifying, six heat races, and seven feature events. Parker Frederickson (34), from Kokomo, Indiana, would lead all 25 laps of the BOSS Sprint Car 25-lap feature event earning him the win. Joe Martin (10S), from Punxsutawney, picked up the win for the Rohrich RUSH Dirt Late Models, while Jacob Jordan (28J), from Aliquippa, snagged his first career win for the RUSH Sportsman Modifieds, and Logan Koteles (64K), from Stockdale, got his second career win in the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock feature. Brian Huchko (60H), from Coraopolis, would get another win for the Penn Ohio Pro Stocks as he led the entire race. Susie Rudolph (55), from Steubenville, Ohio, got another win for the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders, and Abby Gindlesperger (05), from Jefferson Hills, got her first career win in the All Ways Safe Young Guns feature. 

17 BOSS Sprints would be broken into two groups for qualifying and Parker Frederickson (34) would set the fast-time for group one with a time of 18.426. However, in group two, Joey Amantea (88J), from Mount Pocono, would set a new track record with a time of 17.918. But, a few drivers later, Ricky Lewis (41), from Ventura, California, would beat that track record with a time of 17.669. After their two heat races, the top drivers in each heat would redraw for their starting positions for the 25-lap feature. Frederickson (34) would be the lucky dog and start on the pole. Starting to his outside in the second spot was Isaac Chapple (52), from Willow Branch, Indiana. The second row consisted of Chad Ruhlman (49C), from Erie, and Lewis (41). When the green flag waved, Frederickson (34) would jump out to an early lead as the field followed him through turns one and two. By lap three, Frederickson (34) was already beginning to distance himself from the field, as he led the pack with Chad Ruhlman (49C) in second and Chapple (52) in third. Frederickson (34) still had his lead over the field at the halfway point but a lap 18 caution would slow the pace when a car had trouble in turn four and was off of the pace. A single-foul restart would ensue and it was like Frederickson (34) was shot out of a cannon when green replaced yellow. The field would complete five more laps and it looked like Frederickson (34) had the win in the bag. However, the caution would come out again with only 2 laps remaining for a car that had a flat tire in turn three. A two-lap shootout would ensue and it was again a single foul restart. Just like the earlier restart, Frederickson (34) took off like a rocket and completed the sweep as he led all 25 laps of the event picking up the win. He was followed by Chapple (52) in second, Carmen Perigo (21) in third, Lewis (41) in fourth, and Dustin Smith (77) would complete the top five. The heat race winners were Frederickson (34) and Chapple (52). 

The RUSH Late Model 20-lap feature would have Tim Shaffer (45), from Aliquippa starting on the pole. Marting (10S) would start at Shaffer's outside in the second spot. The second starting row consisted of Dave Goble (20G), from Aliquippa, and Jeremy Wonderling (3J), from Wellsville, New York. At the start of the event, Shaffer (45) would take the early lead but he had company as Martin (10S) raced door to door with him for the first few laps. Then on lap two, Martin (10S) would take over the lead which knocked Shaffer (45) back to the second spot. With Martin (10S) still leading, a three-way battle for second was taking place behind him between Shaffer (45), J. Wonderling (3J), and Phillip Bubeck (4). By lap six, it was clear that J. Wonderling (3J) had won the battle for second and Bubeck (4) would take third, and Shaffer (45) fourth, as Martin (10S) continued to lead them all. Just before the halfway point of the race, Martin (10S) would enter lapped traffic as he continued to distance himself from the rest of the field. On lap 12, Bubeck (4) was able to steal second place from J Wonderling (3J) and then two laps later, Shaffer (45) was able to pass J. Wonderling (3J) for third. With J. Wonderling (3J) now in the fourth spot, it was apparent that something was wrong with his car and then on lap 16, J. Wonderling (3J) would stop on the track which brought out the event’s lone caution. Martin (10S) would choose the inside on the restart and when green replaced yellow, Martin (10S) was able to keep his lead over the field. Martin (10S) led all but the first lap of the race which earned him the PPMS Rohrich RUSH Late Model win. He was followed to the line by Shaffer (45) in second, Bubeck (4) in third, Brady Wonderling (Z1) in fourth, and Brandon Burgoon (5X) would round out the top five. The heat race winners were Burgoon (5X) and J. Wonderling (3J). 

The RUSH Sportsman Modifieds were making their second appearance of the season on Saturday evening and in their 15-lap feature, Jacob Jordan (28J) would start on the pole. Starting on the outside in the second spot was Kole Holden (2), from Tiona. Row two had Ayden Cipriano (5C), from Hermitage, in the P3 spot, and Cole Edwards (29), from Kennerdell, starting fourth, while Lucas Canon (2LC), from Sharpsville, would complete the five-car field. When the green flag dropped, Jordan (28J) would come away with the early lead. Jordan (28J) was still leading on lap four and he had Holden (2) in second and Cipriano (5C) in third. The race ran caution free and Jordan (28J) was able to lead all 15 laps of the event en route to his first career RUSH Sportsman Modified win. He was followed by Holden (2) in second, Cipriano (5C) in third, Edwards (29) in fourth, and Canon (2LC) in fifth. The Sportsman Mods did not run a heat race. 

Kayla McManus (00K), from Elizabeth, would start on the pole for the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock 15-lap feature. McManus (00K) moved up to a RUSH Late Model this season but her Late Model needs to be repaired at the moment so she brought out the Hobby Stock on Saturday night. L. Koteles (64K) would start to Kayla’s outside in second place. Tony Magill (5), from Jefferson Hills, and Gary Koteles (65K), from Stockdale, would make up the second starting row. When the flagman waved the green, Mcmanus (00K) would come away with the early lead but L. Koteles (64K) was right on her rear bumper. L. Koteles (64K) would take over the lead on lap two which knocked McManus (00K) back to second. McManus (00k) would make an attempt to pass L. Koteles (64K) for the lead on lap four, but he would slam the door on her move and keep his lead. With the race going from green to checkers in record fashion, L. Koteles (64K) was able to pick up the win by leading the remaining laps of the event. McManus (00K) would settle for second while T. Magill (5) would finish third, T. Magill (05) finished fourth, and Matt Benard (15) would complete the top five. The heat race winners were Benard (15) and T. Magill (5). 

The Penn Ohio Pro Stocks had a four-car field for their 15-lap feature and Brian Huchko (60H) would start on the pole. Starting to his outside in second place was Heath Close (77), from Shaler. Frank Magill (05) would start P3 and AJ Poljak (36), from Baldwin, would complete the four-car field. When the green light turned on, Huchko (60H) would take off with the early lead, as Poljak (36) would follow him into second. Huchko (60H) would lead all 15-laps of the event as he picked up another PPMS Penn Ohio Pro Stock win. He was followed by Poljak (36) in second, F. Magill (05) would finish third, and Close (77) would round out the four-car field. 

The Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders were up next and it was a father-daughter battle between Susie Rudolph (55) and her dad Craig Rudolph (5R). Craig would have the pole with his daughter to his outside. When the green flag waved, S. Rudolph (55) would have the lead by turn one with dad C. Rudolph not far behind. S. Rudolph (55) was still leading on lap three when C. Rudolph (5R) pulled into the pits which gave S. Rudolph (55) another Four Cylinder win. Despite her dad pulling into the pits, he finished second. They did not run a heat race. 

All eyes were on the All Ways Safe Young Guns as Zoey Knight (78Z), from Plum, was looking to tie Karlee Kovacs (221K) record of four wins in three nights. However, Knight (78Z) would start at the tail of the field for their eight-lap feature. Abby Gindlesperger (05) would start on the pole with Emmerson Laboon (114), from Elizabeth, to her outside in second place. Sadie Snatchko (56) would start P3 and Gavin Kokolis (91) would start P4, while Knight (78Z) rounded out the five-car field. When the green flag dropped, Laboon (114) would come away with the early lead. Laboon (114) would lead until lap three when Gindlesperger (05) was able to pass her for the lead. The race ran caution free and Gindlesperger (05) was able to lead the remaining five laps of the event which earned her her first career Young Guns win. Laboon (114) finished second, Snatchko (56) finished third, Kokolis (91) finished fourth, and Knight (78Z) would round out the five-car field. The Young Guns did not run a heat race.

Racing resumes at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile next Saturday, July 30, 2022, for autograph night. Come meet and greet your favorite drivers up close and personal on the front stretch. Drivers will be signing autographs, taking photos with fans, passing out candy, etc. It is also scout night and all Scouts will receive free grandstand admission. On the card for autograph night are the Rohrich RUSH Dirt Late Models, the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stocks, the Penn Ohio Pro Stocks, the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders, and the All Ways Safe Young Guns.
