Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway Steps Up To Complete 2022 Speedweek Circuit
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Shippenville, PA (Apr 12th, 2022) – As everyone eagerly awaits the start of the local racing season, Schaeffer’s Specialized Lubricants Western PA Speedweek presented by J.S. Bova Excavating is excited to welcome Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway (PPMS) to the 2022 speedweek circuit!
Located just to the west of the city in Imperial, PA, the sprawling half-mile oval owned and operated by Miley Motorsports has stepped up to the plate to fill the void on Thursday, June 2nd. Following a recent announcement that Thunder Mountain Speedway would be unable to open this coming season due to unexpected work commitments, it was a no-brainer where to turn to next as Western PA Speedweek staff aimed to fill out the five-race schedule.
“With Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway, you get more than you could ask for” said Speedweek director Tyler Beichner. “Beyond a track that traditionally produces phenomenal racing night in and night out, we get to incorporate a facility that has shaped local and regional racing for over three decades. We couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with PPMS for Round #2 of Western PA Speedweek, or more thankful to the entire Miley family for joining us in this endeavor on such short notice.”
Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway was built and opened in 1979, and just ten years later the speedway was purchased by the Miley family in 1989. As they say, the rest is history. Through thick and thin, the Mileys have continually operated the track since that day over 33 years ago. And although PPMS has mainly been associated with late model racing over the years, they’ve jumped at the opportunity to host the ‘410 Sprint Cars’ at every chance they got.
Now, PPMS returns to the Western PA Speedweek family after serving as the Saturday night host for all eight years of the previous speedweek foray that ran from 1993-2000. Bobby Allen, Ed Lynch Jr (x2), Joey Saldana, Dale Blaney, Lance Dewease, and Kenny Jacobs were the winners of those completed races.
In a surprise twist, mid-week sprint car racing is not entirely new to the 1/2-mile speed factory. Just five years ago in the summer of 2017, PPMS hosted a rare Monday night race for the All Star Circuit of Champions as a rain makeup date for a previously postponed event. Tony Stewart was the first to the checkers that evening to claim the hard-fought win in a race that saw more than a handful of lead changes. Now we ask – who will be the next sprint car driver to lay claim to a mid-week feature victory!? With just seven weeks remaining until speedweek commences, we won’t be waiting much longer to find out.

Western PA Speedweek will utilize the same group qualifying format that was used last season, and that has been made popular at Sharon Speedway over the last few years. In one slight alteration, hot laps will be ran separately from time trials. Each heat race group will go out together for a brief hot lap session, with the ensuing 2-3 car time trials to follow immediately after.
