WEATHER STOPS PPMS FOR NINTH TIME, SPRINTS SET FOR OCTOBER 1
Imperial, PA (September 17, 2016) Wet weather forced the cancellation of the Saturday night racing program at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway for the ninth time this season. The “Racers Request 20” for the winged 410 Sprints paying $2,000 to win and $200 to start, will be rescheduled for Saturday, October 1.
Next up on the schedule will be DIEHL Automotive Driver Autograph Night on Saturday, September 24. A favorite night of the race teams, fans will be able to visit and get autographs from their favorites on the front stretch during intermission. It will be K&N Air Filter Racer Appreciation Night with prizes given away to selected race teams that have a K&N decal on their cars. The RUSH Late Models will be racing for $1,000 to win, as the open Sportsman, RUSH Modifieds, Open Hobby Stocks, Young Guns, and open Four Cylinders will be on the card.
On Saturday, October 1, the winged 410 Sprints will return, along with the RUSH Late Models racing for $1,000 to win, the open Sportsman, RUSH Modifieds, Open Hobby Stocks, Young Guns, and open Four Cylinders. For the RUSH Late Models and Sportsman teams, September 24 and October 1 races will be dubbed as Mini Chase Races, as the driver with the highest point total from those nights that fails to qualify for their events on Pittsburgher weekend will be added to the field as a guaranteed starter. The Sportsman car rules for the two dates will be from the Ed Laboon race that was held back in July. Super Late Model teams are welcome to attend any of the remaining race nights to use as practice sessions.
The Super Late Models will return to end the 2016 season on Friday and Saturday, October 7 and 8, with the running of the 28th Annual Pittsburgher 100. Highlighting Saturday’s card will be the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, as the 100 lap race will pay $20,000 to the winner. Also in competition on Pittsburgher weekend will be the running of the Bill Hendren Memorial Race for the Sweeney Chevrolet RUSH Dirt Late Model Marquee Touring Series paying $2,500 to the winner, and the Wee Willie White Sportsman Showdown paying $2,055 to the winner. Last Chance Qualifying races and Features will run on Saturday’s card, with preliminary qualifying events to be run on Friday night.
