Brad Loyet – Two Runner-up Finishes Restore Confidence!
(Bill W) July 28, 2015 – Brad Loyet and the Vacuworx Global #o5 team put in a solid weekend in Illinois and Missouri. Two second place finishes and another top five had the Sunset Hills, Missouri driver’s confidence back after a change in cars. A week off precedes the “Ironman 55” in Pevely, Missouri August 7 and 8.
MOWA Illinois Speedweek began at Quincy Raceways on Thursday. Brad started fourth in the heat. “We had a couple yellows in the heat, but we ran the cushion the whole time,” he says. “That put us in the Dash. I just couldn’t get a good handle on the car and we finished sixth.”
He would start sixth in the feature. “The handling of the car just wasn’t good,” says Brad. “I think at one time we were up to third. I started searching, trying to make some moves. I slowly backed up to fifth. The car wasn’t responding like it should. It’s the one we’ve been running since the crash at Knoxville. We’ve been pulling our hair out trying to make it quick. We just decided to take it apart and we put a new one together for Tri-City.”
The decision paid off at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City. “We had a really good car there,” says Brad. “We were able to go from fifth to second. We had a slider for the lead, but couldn’t quite stick it. We were the high point man going into the Dash. We started fifth and drove up to third. We were beside (Christopher) Bell at the line.”
Brad was able to move from inside row two to second at the checkers. “The feature went well,” he says. “Our car felt awesome. I thought we were better than (Brady) Bacon on the cushion, but we couldn’t get around him. We knew it would lay rubber, and I was hoping to find it first. Brady and I found it at about the same time. From then on, we just drove nose to tail. Overall, it was a good night and it felt like I had a racecar underneath me.”
It was on to weekly action at St. Francois County Raceway near Farmington, Missouri Saturday. “We were able to win the heat,” says Brad. “We started fifth in the Dash and ran third. We lined up behind (Joey) Montgomery in the feature. He’s the guy to beat down at Farmington. On the start, we were with him. We were pretty much the same speed. I tried the top and getting a run, I tried every line possible to get a run. I wasn’t able to do anything. It seemed lapped traffic was opening up for him, but it seemed I had to race them for three laps. We ended up second. It was a good finish.”
The weekend ended back in Illinois with MOWA at Jacksonville Speedway. “It rained most of the morning, and I was kind of surprised it wasn’t canceled,” says Brad. “You knew the track was going to be rough. My pill draw was fabulous and I drew a nine for the heat. It was rough. The first corner, I got by Brady and about turned over. The next corner, he got back by me. That was about it. We finished eighth.”
Brad would start fifteenth in the main event. “We knew we had a good car,” he says. “It wasn’t worth tearing up for where we were starting. I was patient. If someone screwed up, I was able to get by them. We got up to eighth and actually had a really good car. The way the track was, it was follow the leader. I don’t know that the leaders lapped anyone. Overall, it was a pretty good weekend and we’re glad to have a good car underneath us.”
