JGM adds midweek special to schedule

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. (July 29) — Jim Gray and the Jimmy Gray Motorsports team are headed back to Clarksville Speedway this Thursday night, using the Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series’ $7,500-to-win Middle Tennessee Thursday Night Thunder event as a valuable tune-up for the J.R. Knight Memorial on Friday, Aug. 9.

Although the team will be underpowered in Super Late Model competition, Gray’s goal is simple: test set-ups and get more track time ahead of the $4,300-to-win J.R. Knight Memorial on the same high-banked quarter-mile in two weeks.

“This week is about getting laps and learning what we can to be better prepared for the J.R. Knight,” Gray said. “We may be out-horsepowered, but every lap helps. After a disappointing night last week, this Thursday is really about trying a few things that we want to test before the J.R. Knight Memorial.”

Thursday’s format includes hot laps, time trials, B-mains, and a 50-lap feature. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., with grandstands opening at 5 p.m. and hot laps scheduled for 6 p.m.

Looking ahead, Gray also plans to compete at Wartburg (Tenn.) Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 2, entering the Sportsman division as part of the Dylan Kennedy Memorial. It will mark the team’s first visit to the East Tennessee track. With Gray working nearby, the team sees it as a good opportunity to visit a new track and get in some extra laps.
