Burdette, Carpenter & Magyar Headline 'Giving Cancer the Black Flag' Night at the Bullring

It looked like the odds were against the Tyler County Speedway on Saturday Night as an unpredictable forecast loomed large but not a drop would fall and the ‘Giving Cancer the Black Flag’ Fundraiser event would go off without a hitch. The racing community would step up large like always to the tune of over $18,000 to the Wetzel County Hope and Memories Gas Card program. Thanks to Chad Smith and Carol Coleman for organizing such a fantastic night and helping make a difference for so many. Also on tap was the traditional Season Championship and Hillbilly Qualifiers in all divisions.

Headlining the night was the Jenkins Auto Parts UMP Modifieds and the ‘Giving Cancer the Black Flag’ race paying $2,000 to win that featured lots of bonus and lap money. KC Burdette would start the night off and collect fast time while Shawn Jett would score the impressive $1,000 to win Dash courtesy of Stutler Motorsports. Heat race wins were garnered by Kyle Bond, Cody Brightwell and Donnie Dotson. The twenty one car field would take flagman Matt Amick’s green flag and a fantastic race would see Tyler Stutler vault out to the early lead with the Mid Ohio Valley’s winningest driver, KC Burdette stalking the driver of the 14t machine. Lap after lap Burdette would press the leader but Stutler would continue to run a flawless race. As the duo would take the white flag, Burdette would utilize a turn 1 slider to wrestle the lead away from a game Stutler and head down the backstretch with his first lead of the race. As the checkers would wave it would be KC Burdette scoring the win over a disappointed Stutler, Shawn Jett, Doug Carson and Cody Brightwell. Burdette would bag another win as the Parkersburg, WV racer nears 30 wins on the season in his hunt for the UMP National Championship. With his 2nd place run however Stutler would secure his first Tyler County Speedway Modified track championship in the very competitive class.

Another strong field of Stutler Motorsports Super Late Models would look to punch their ticket with an automatic starting spot in the Hillbilly 100. Once again it would be Parkersburg, WV’s Tyler Carpenter besting the competition enroute to his 6th win of the season at the Bullring. The ‘Kamikaze Kid’ has been unbeatable this year at Tyler County Speedway as the popular wheelman is 6 for 6 on the season and appears poised to give the traveling Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series all they can handle at the 56th Annual Hillbilly 100. Following Carpenter across the line was Jared Hawkins, track champion Brandon Weigle, Todd Brennan and Kyle Thomas.

The Sigler Fabrication Hotmod class would roll out its annual Workin’ Man World Championship. The story was all ‘Big Daddy’ Steve Magyar as the Wileyville, WV racer would take charge of the race with Jason Todd and Brian Probst in tow. As the race would play out it was clear nobody had anything for the driver of the #50 machine and Magyar would take the convincing win. Following Magyar was Jason Todd, Brian Probst, Lou Ennis and Daniel Muldrew. By virtue of his win and Brian Probst 3rd place finish, Magyar would also jump from the 3rd place in points to the track championship by a slim two point margin over last seasons defending champion.

Pennsboro, WV’s Logan Reed would go unchallenged in picking up his first J&R Excavating RUSH Late Model victory of the season at the Bullring. The sharp looking #37 would park his ride in the EQT Victory Lane ahead of track champion Michael Moreland, Brian Nethers, Mack Brookover and John Johnson.

Another strong field of Middlebourne Galaxy Food Center Sportmods would roll off with defending track champion Lance Weppler launching out to the lead from his front row starting position. Weppler’s limited racing schedule in 2024 would not deter the Marietta, Ohio racer as the driver of the #7 would hold off and best a talented group nipping at his heels. Following Weppler across the stripe was early season dominator TJ Arnold, Kendall Hodge, Wesley Reed and an improving Dalton Adkins. By virtue of his 3rd place finish it would be Kendall Hodge laying claim to the 2024 Sportmod track championship.

It was newcomer Hunter Stephens taking his first career feature win at the Tyler County Speedway in the SCDRA 4 Cylinder feature. Stephens would overtake race leader Noah Bubeck on his way to victory. Following Stephens to the pay window were Noah Bubeck, Bill Tennant, Jacob Hughes and Joe Price. With his sixth place finish, Mitch Eddy would pick up his first Tyler County Speedway track championship.

In the Youth League of Auto Racing, the Pathway Real Estate Professional Mini Wedges would kick off the program. In the Junior division it would be Kolton Thomas picking up the win with Coen Thomas and newcomer Easton Mayle rounding out the top three. In the Senior class it was Cruz Thomas besting brothers Eli and Erickson Smith. In the track championship chase, it would be a Thomas Brother sweep as the popular duo would each notch a track championship in their respective classes.

The Tyler County Speedway will sit idle next Saturday night in preparation for the Labor Day weekend 3 day extravaganza known as the 56th Annual Hillbilly 100. We hope you’ll join us Aug. 30-Sept. 1 as the Tyler County Speedway puts a bow on the 50th season and welcomes the racing world to West Virginia for three awesome days of racing featuring the $30,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Car Series ‘Hillbilly 100’.
