April 1, 2023 Night at the Races

The first race of the season at Tri County provided brisk action on the track and brisk winds throughout the night. Luckily, the temperature wasn't that bad.

The first race of the night was the Renegade Division. Klint Townsend (#9) took the pole with a lap of 19.296. The first 3 were inverted which placed Steve Smart (#16) on the pole. It appeared as though Dalton Ledbedder (#32) took the win in the caution free race. However, Ledbedder failed post race inspection. Steve Smart was subsequently handed the win. Klint Townsend (#9) was second and Jordan Cook (#55) was third.

Race #2 featured the Outlaw Division. Tim Dale (#5) was on the pole with a speed of 15.914. The top two were inverted in the Outlaw Division. This placed Martin Nesbitt (#92) in the coveted pole position. For the second time as in many races, we had a clean, caution free, race. Nesbitt (#92) scored his first win of the year. Tim Dale (#5) was second and Sheflon Clay (#15) was third.

Action picked up in the third race of the night. Marty Ward (#41) was fastest in qualifying in the Vintage Division with a lap of 16.553. The first 3 were inverted for the start of the race. This placed Dennis Hinkle (#4) in the p1 position coming to green. The first caution of the season flew on lap 6 when Ward and Allen Acipiter (#8) made contact on the frontstretch. Ward was sent head-on into the outside wall. Fortunately, his damage wasn't severe. Ward recovered to come back and win the race. Eddie Gilbert (#95) followed closely behind him across the line. Bob Wallace (#35) completed the top three.

Front Wheel Drives were next on the docket. Jimmy Crigger (#98) was fastest for the pole run earlier in the night with a lap time of 19.086. Inversions were the order of the day for the FWD's as well. This time the first 5 were inverted. Roy Gosnell (#24) was scheduled to take the green first. However, he decided to start in the rear. After this change, Donny Holland (#10) was at the head of the field. The first caution was on lap 4. A hood came loose from a car and landed on the frontstretch near the flag stand. Another caution waved on lap 18. The (#98) car of Jimmy Crigger stalled in turn 4. When the dust settled at the end of the night, Kayla Powell (#12) was declared the winner. Powell was followed across the line by Donny Holland (#10) second and Jason Garwood (#46) third.

The quick Limited Late models were ready to race when their time came. Josh Goble was fastest with a lap time of 15.805. The first five were inverted, placing Don Carlton (#14) on the pole. On lap 28, Tim Bristol (#71), Dennis Gammons (#8), and Phillip Peters (#1), were all involved in an accident between turns 1 & 2, for the race's only caution. Trey Canipe pretty much dominated to take the win. Josh Goble (#65) was runner-up. Don Carlton (#14) made a serious charge in turn 4. He made up two positions and come home third.

Street Stocks always put on a good show and this night was no different. Marlin Yoder (#08) had a fast lap of 16.708. He was replaced on the pole by Jesse Clark (#5) by order of a top 3 invert. On lap 28 Kyle Boice (#73) spun out in turn 4 and hit the inside wall. They ran four laps before Jeff Allen made contact with the backstretch wall which brought out the caution once again on lap 32. The race was finished without incident from that point. Marlin Yoder (#08)claimed the win on the night. Davey Smart (#16) was second and Jesse Clark (#5) placed third.

The Late Models wrapped up racing for the night. Thomas Beane (#28) had a fast lap of 15.668. The first six were inverted for the night's final race. Beane appeared to have the race in hand until a caution on lap 69. Eugene Norton (#27) spun in turn 4 erasing Beane's lead. On the restart, it appeared as though fate would not be kind to Beane. He spun himself, along with Michael Faulk (#1) coming off turn 2. For the third time, on lap 69, the yellow waved again. Dillon Houser (#11), Taylor Satterfield (#40), and Eugene Norton, were all involved in an altercation between turns 3 and 4. Thomas Beane (#28) took the occasion to return to his #1 position and never looked back. He claimed the win. Michael Faulk (#1) was second and Eugene Norton (#27) rounded out the top 3.
