Amantea Scores Another Podium Finish at Hamlin Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – HAMLIN, Pa. (July 13, 2020) – Joey Amantea highlighted a two-race week behind the wheel of his wingless micro sprint with a third-place finish on Saturday night at Hamlin Speedway.
He also recorded an 11th-place result at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa., on Thursday. It was his best outing at the track this season.
“It’s nice to be on the podium again, but it was definitely a frustrating week,” he said. “We spent a lot of time dealing with motor issues and it really just set us back all weekend.”
Originally scheduled for Wednesday night, constant rain delayed racing at Action Track USA until Thursday. Amantea kicked off the night by winning a heat race from the fifth starting position.
The feature redraw lined him up on the outside of the fourth row. However, he was plagued by mechanical woes throughout the race and he settled for an 11th-place finish.
“From the very first lap in the feature the motor just wasn’t picking up right and I nursed it the entire time,” he said. “It was really a bummer as the car felt really good in the heat and I think we had a top-five car. But that’s just the way things go sometimes.”
As a result of the problem in their red car, Amantea and his team thrashed to prepare their old black car before heading to Hamlin Speedway on Saturday. Amantea began the night by charging from third to first in a heat race to earn the second starting position for the feature.
He showed speed throughout the race, but the track proved tough to navigate as a result of multiple divisions running on it throughout the night. Amantea settled for a third-place result. It was his eighth top five of the year.
“We probably should’ve put a harder tire on the car for the feature as those top two guys were just in another league,” he said. “We had speed, but just were not good enough. We definitely could’ve been a little more prepared and changed a few things, but really I was just a third-place car Saturday.”
Next up for Amantea will be a three-race week consisting of wingless micro sprint races at Action Track USA on Wednesday and at Spirit Auto Center Speedway in Swedesboro, N.J., on Friday before Amantea jumps in the Burke Racing No. 54 sprint car on Saturday to join the United Racing Club at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa.
