Utilizing a thrilling last-lap, final corner pass, Brandon Overton raced to the $10,053 victory on Friday night at Wythe Raceway in his No. 76 Crossfit Overton / Allstar Concrete/ Longhorn Chassis by Wells Motorsports/ Clements Racing Engines Inc.-powered Super Late Model. (Jacy Norgaard photo)

The win was his sixth of the 2022 season.

“Man, I don’t even know where to begin. That was a pretty exciting race with J.D. (Jonathan Davenport). I bided my time and was starting to think I might not be able to make it happen, but the door opened there on the last lap, and thankfully I was able to make it happen and got the win,” Overton said. “The rest of the weekend wasn’t the greatest for us, but we’re thrilled to get another win. We’ll head to Florida this weekend and see if we can’t turn our luck around at All-Tech Raceway. That place was challenging for us at Speedweeks, but we got a lot of notes and are ready for the challenge.”

Wells Motorsports pilot Brandon Overton returned to the driver’s seat of the No. 76 Longhorn Chassis on Thursday afternoon at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) for the inaugural Kyle Larson Presents FloRacing Late Model Challenge powered by Tezos event. With a third-place finish in his heat race pinning him on the sixth row for the $20,000-to-win A-Main, Overton raced forward three spots in the 50-lap affair to register a ninth-place finish.

The following night at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.) in a field of 23 Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals entries, Overton secured his spot into the main event with a second-place finish in his heat. Starting the feature in fourth, Brandon tracked down Jonathan Davenport late in the race and began putting the heat on the race-long pacesetter.

After a pair of unsuccessful attempts to pass the leader amid lapped-traffic, Overton drove underneath Davenport in the final corner of the last lap to capture his sixth win of the season and $10,053 paycheck. He finished ahead of Davenport, Chris Ferguson, Ross Bailes, and Dale McDowell.

On Saturday evening at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) for the second annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial, Brandon topped the 36-car field in time trials before picking up a heat race win. Starting on the pole for the $21,000-to-win A-Main, Overton suffered a flat tire late in the race while running in the top-three, dropping him back to 15th when the checkered flag flew.
