Inside Line Promotions – EASTABOGA, Ala. (Sept. 5, 2018) – Jordon Mallett add two more wins to his ever-growing season tally last weekend, bringing his total to nine triumphs as he chases his second consecutive USCS Series title.

Mallett was victorious in the weekend opener at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tenn., on Friday and he followed that up with another win on Sunday at Talladega Short Track. In between, he finished second in the finale at I-75 Raceway.

“I have to really thank my crew, the team, my sponsors and everyone who makes this work,” he said. “Things are really starting to click well. This is the kind of season we were hoping for. Hopefully we can continue to stack up wins. We feel we have a good grasp of what is going on. We refined our program and we are satisfied with it. It’s a testament to a lot of hard work, a little stubbornness and a good attitude. With enough hard work, it always seems to work out.”

Mallett started on the pole at I-75 Raceway on Friday and he took the lead coming off turn four during the opening lap. He paced all 30 laps en route to the victory. The 26-year-old endured a couple of restarts over the course of the main event as well. The win in the opener at I-75 Raceway marked the second straight race in which Mallett had been victorious at the third-mile oval.

“We went back to what worked at the track back in April and it seemed to work again,” said Mallett, who also advanced from sixth to win the dash and from sixth to third place in a heat race. “We were quick from the get-go and took the lead on the first lap and cruised through traffic all the way to the win. It was smooth sailing the whole way. There weren’t any anxious moments.”

In the finale at I-75 Raceway the following night, Mallett charged from the sixth starting spot to cross the finish line second in the main event. He opened the night with a fourth-place run in a heat race and also was fourth in the dash.

“The track got a bunch of rain about three in the afternoon and they were able to save the track, but it ended up being very, very fast around the bottom and one lane,” he noted. “The track stayed that way in the feature until about five or so laps to go. Then we really found something after we had a few restarts. The track started to come in a little more around the middle and the top and I was able to move around a bit. We got up there and started to run the leader down, but they were just too far out front and we didn’t have enough laps.”

Mallett started second at Talladega Short Track and he shadowed 11-time USCS champion Terry Gray for the first 11 laps of the 30-lap contest on Sunday. Mallett made his bid for the lead on Lap 12 and led the rest of the way to earn his career-best ninth win of the season. The native of Greenbrier, Ark., was victorious in a heat race earlier in the evening after running second in the dash.

“We stayed with the leader for about the first 10 laps and then I really showed my cards and pulled up alongside him,” Mallett said. “Originally, I was going to bide my time and wait until we got to lapped traffic, but if you get up to him more than once, you’d better take that opportunity because that might be the only chance you get. We were rolling pretty good and were able to cruise to about a half a track lead when we got out front and were able to hold that pace.”

Mallett will head to Georgia this Saturday for a makeup event at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, where a USCS Series race was rained out on Aug. 18.
