Thomasville's Hodnett Continues Sprint Car Domination
For the fifth time in the last six years, and the sixth time in his career, Thomasville's Greg Hodnett has won the overall Central Pennsylvania Sprint Car Point Series championship.
Hodnett won the series crown first in 2003 when there was no series sponsor. His next two titles came in 2009 and 2010 under the Speed Dawg banner. Speedway Motors took over sponsorship in 2011, when Hodnett won his fourth title, and Champion Racing Oil joined Speedway Motors as title sponsor in 2012 when Hodnett got his fifth title.
Now Hodnett has again won the Speedway Motors/Champion Racing Oil title this season.
Hodnett joined Michael Heffner's racing team this season, with Ryan Hand as the team mechanic. Hodnett finished in the top 10 in 55 of the series races, scoring 11 wins. He won three times each at Williams Grove and Port Royal, twice at Grandview and once each at Susquehanna, Selinsgrove and Hagerstown. Hodnett also scored a non-series 360 sprint win at Bridgeport, N.J., this season.
The Speedway Motors/Champion Racing Oil Series competed in a total of 82 races this season, but since Lincoln and Port Royal compete on the same night, there were actually only 68 races in which a driver could compete.
In addition to his 11 wins, Hodnett also scored 11 second-place finishes, six thirds, seven fourths and four fifths. He also scored 16 finishes between sixth and 10th.
Danny Dietrich finished second in the series points with 37 top-10 finishes, including nine local wins. He also won a race at western Pennsylvania's Roaring Knob Speedway. Third in the series was Lance Dewease, who notched 40 top-10 finishes with four wins.
Brian Montieth, who had five wins among his 31 top 10s, was fourth, and Alan Krimes was fifth with 39 top-10 finishes, but just two wins.
Rounding out the top 10 were: Brent Marks, with six wins and 32 top 10s; Stevie Smith, with seven wins in his 19 top 10s; Donnie Kreitz Jr., with three wins and 24 top 10s; Lucas Wolfe, with two wins and 24 top 10s; and Doug Esh, with two wins and 23 top 10s.
In all, there were 86 drivers who scored top-10 finishes to gain points in the series and two rookie drivers were able to crack the top 25 in the points this season. They were Dover's Austin Hogue in 19th and Freddie Rahmer in 25th.

CHAMPION OIL is an industry leader in development of synthetic motor
oils for motorsports and racing. Champion's multi-viscosity motor oils
contain high zinc and phosphorous formulas designed to deliver the
correct balance of chemistry to protect high performance engines,
especially those using flat tappet roller cams operating at high RPM's
and requiring high-pressure valve springs.
These “purpose-built” lubricant products contain Champion’s proprietary
TVS® (Thermal Viscosity Stabilizer) which extends oil film capacity for
better protection at high temperatures. The Champion oils also contain
special lubricity modifiers to reduce friction, and unlock the full
potential of any engine by providing increased compression, horsepower
and torque.
