AUGUST SIGNALS START OF BIG RACE SEASON FOR THE RACE OF CHAMPIONS SERIES

The Race of Champions “Family of Series” is set to enter one of the most important stretches of the season, as August marks the beginning of a championship-defining run filled with marquee events, major payouts, and the pursuit of legacy-defining victories.

The Race of Champions Modified Series will launch its August schedule at Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome with the traditional “Night Before the Glen – Rod Spalding Classic” on Saturday, August 9. The following weekend, teams will head to Lancaster (N.Y.) Motorplex for the 36th Annual Tribute to Tommy Druar and Tony Jankowiak on Saturday, August 16. The month will close with one of the biggest events of the regular season — the Maynard Troyer Classic at Spencer Speedway in Williamson, N.Y., on Friday, August 29.

The action only intensifies from there as the rescheduled Race of Champions 250 — originally slated for April — takes center stage at Lake Erie Speedway in North East, Pa., on Saturday, September 13. The 250-lap crown jewel event remains one of the most anticipated in the series.

“These races are exciting, they pay well, and they carry tremendous history,” stated Austin Beers of Northampton, Pa., a consistent contender in the Modified Series points race. “To win any of them is an honor. Hopefully, we can find our way to victory lane in one — and then go looking for the next one.”

Beers emphasized the need for consistency in the championship chase but also acknowledged the importance of taking big swings when prestigious victories are on the line.

Race of Champions Sportsman Modified Series: Triple Crown Challenge

The Race of Champions Sportsman Modified Series also enters a critical stretch with its own “Triple Crown” of events. The three-race challenge begins with “The Decker” at Holland (N.Y.) Speedway on Saturday, August 23. It continues at Lake Erie Speedway on Sunday, September 14, and concludes at The Bullring at Wyoming County International Speedway in Perry, N.Y., on Saturday, October 4, as part of the season ending “Shootout”.

A $1,000 bonus is up for grabs for any driver who can sweep all three events. If a competitor wins two of the three, they will receive a $500 bonus.

With fields frequently separated by less than a tenth of a second during qualifying, the Sportsman Series remains one of the most competitive divisions in the region.

Late Models, Big Money & the Rick Wylie Classic

The Race of Champions Late Model Series will also play a major role in August, headlined by the Rick Wylie Classic at Holland Speedway on Saturday, August 23. The special 48-lap event will feature increased purse money and intense competition in tribute to one of the region’s Late Model legends.

These upcoming events represent some of the most compelling and tradition-rich races on the short track calendar. With big money, major trophies, and championship implications on the line, August will be a month no fan or competitor will want to miss.
